Wrap vs other with ClipWrap?

Oops. Ran into a problem. Wondering if you have a solution.

I rewrap the files ok but when I import them to FCP, the date is set to today's date.

The file names show the real date and time. I am looking for a solution that will allow me to import or set the time and date. I found two potential solutions. I am interested to know if you have other solutions or any experience with either of these.

1. File Date Changer 5. Cheap ($5.50) but it appears I have to manually change the date and time (a lot of work since I have over a thousand video files to change).

2. Final Mate from Aunsoft. This looks like it will pull the time and date data from the video and preserve it. But then I would have to import to ProRes-422 (creating a huge file for me to store) in FCP. I can live with the $50 cost if it solved my entire problem...but it does not. I need rewrap with date stamp.

Unless there are better ideas, I will try Rewrap and then use File Date Changer.

You can change the date in FCP.

Thanks Tom. I knew about that a while ago but since forgot about it! That works very well file by file. It even does multiple files but does not change the time correctly on any file after the 1st file. I might be able to live with that. I need to play with it. My guess is that File Changer would work the same way. So my new plan is to use the FCP feature. Still open to ideas on how I can automate this process at least for some batch of the files.

Since the rewrapped file names contain the date and time, the quickest way is to use the File Date Changer 5 to batch change the creation date to the day the clips were shot. iMovie and FCP will sort the files in the proper order based on the file names. This will work even if multiple cameras were used on the same day as long as the cameras' time are properly synced so the files are properly named.

Changing the time of every file based on the file name will take a long time and may not be really necessary - your call.

BTW, I also have a large library of AVCHD .m2ts and .modd files inside the Sony PMB folders and still prefer using BootCamp/Windows to organize and view them.

Great info. Thank you. You saved me a lot of time. I can't convince myself to have some files in PMB and some in FCP....but to each his own.

I used File Date Changer 5, and did a batch month by month changing the creation date (I know I could have batched the entire year). (Note I did not change the modified date.) I then put them in folders by yearly quarters, 2007 1Q, 2007 2Q, etc.

*The problem is that FCP does not put the files in the right month.*

I choose the option: Group events by date > Group events by year and month. It puts everything into the latest month of that folder. So for example when I import 2007 3Q, everything is placed in September 2007 even though there are files that show creation date of July and August. Likewise, 4Q puts everything in December even though there are files that are from Oct and Nov.

Any thoughts on why this is? Is there a setting I am missing?

Figured it out. User error. The setting "Group Events by Date" was grouping as it should. If I wanted videos from different months to show up in the corresponding month, I needed to have separate events.
