You can't load pictures onto your apple tv but you can use pictures from your Flickr account, MobileMe Gallery, iCloud photo stream or a computer that's connected to your local network through Home Sharing.
To do this, go o Settings -> Screensaver and select the option you prefer.
Ferretbite,
Thanks.
I have a computer (Mac Mini Server) that's connected via my local network through Home Sharing.
Where would I upload the pictures to?
What's the best forrmat to use? JPG?

You don't need to upload them anywhere, to my knowledge.
What I did was enable home sharing on iTunes under Advanced and then select which photos I wanted to share via Home Sharing from my iPhoto library. I selected a few albums and events and that was it, they were available on my Home Sharing network.
From there, on the Apple Tv, under Settings I went to Screensaver and located my computer. There you'll find the choice to use the albums, photos and events you selected on your computer as your screensaver.
Hi,
I am using 2nd generation apple TV. As of now when I want to see photos on my screen saver it basically shares from my I Tunes. That means when I switch off my computer, apple tv screen saver will stop. Earlier cant remember how but it had picked up photos from my computer and saved on the hard drive so even when my comp was not around it played those photos from apple tv's hard drive. How do I do it again. I want to change the screen saver photos now.
Ferretbite,
Will give it a try. Thanks!
