Compatible Printers

What is the compatible printer list for the Airport Express station? I have a Canon PIXMA IP6000D, will that work?

My AEBS has Firmware 5.6, and I have an Express that is running Firmware 6.2. Both are listed under the same network name. I will update to 5.7 on Extreme, and 6.3 on Express. I did try the Canon Update earlier in the year when I was laboring over this issue (have since given up), but will make sure that I download the most recent Canon Update anyway.

Have been putting off Tiger Update as well. Nothing posted here seemed to make this an issue....do you see otherwise? I appreciate your help.

IT WORKS!!

The Canon MP480 is "seen" - Unbelieveable. I updated the AEBS Firmware to V5.7, the Express Firmware to V6.3, and the Canon Driver to V4.1.6, and its printing via the wireless network. Thank you for your help. I will be sure and post a note to the other forum I was working in earlier in the year to spread the word. Thanks again!!

I have just setup a Wi-Fi network at home for my two Macs & a PC with a Canon IP5200 connected to the Express. I was able to recognize the printer in the setup and it printed small documents fine but when it came to more complex printing incorporating photos I had the hanging problem, which is annoying the **** out of me trying to get a straight answer as to what printers are compatible! So iFlelix, I wouln't go adding a printer to your list just because someone says they've got it working. I would suggest they put their Express & printer to a proper test!
I note that the Canon IP 5200R is listed as compatible? I spoke to Canon Support and they advised that I needed to connect the printer up via the Express ethernet port, which is impossible as this is in use to the DSL router.
Will the 5200R work wirelessly through its "Bluetooth" capability?
Oh for a straight answer and to get on with my work instead of playing oround with setups!

The Canon iP5200r can be connected wirelessly to an Airport network via 802.11g protocols.

The iP5200r does not have Bluetooth capability.

From:
http://www.canon.com.au/products/printers/colourbjprinters/ip5200r.html

The iP5200R's built-in wireless unit incorporates IEEE802.11g for faster wireless printing, making it the ultimate in home and small office convenience. It also supports Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2), the latest in security technology for secure wireless printing.

You may need to be physically connected to the printer by ethernet initially to set it up, but once setup can be completely wireless.

Woudn't that be nice if people did that.

Don't compare the list to what you would like it to be, compare it to not having a list at all.

The reality is that there is no list available officially.

The list I have put together is not perfect (and that is stated on the page). It is a guide only not a definitive properly tested list.

OS changes and firmware changes impact on the list. Canon printers are particularly problematic in this respect.

I put this list in my own time and I am paying for the webspace and bandwidth.

The question really is, is this list better than not having a list?

Printing complex documents over a wireless connection can be problematic esepecially if the printer has a small print buffer, therefore in these instances I would recommend connecting the printer direct to the Mac for printing.

Felix, I was reading this thread, since I've been having no luck at all printing via my Extreme -- just since updating to Tiger from Panther. However, after seeing several people having success in wireless printing after some experimentation, I tried deleting my old wireless printer settings from the printer list and re-adding it. It worked!

I'm using a Canon Pixma MP800, so you might want to add it to your list. 🙂

Hi,

I've tried to configure this printer to work on an airport network and it doesn't quite work.

Firts, the network : airport extreme as the base station, and an airport express as a remote station. The printer connect to the base station wirelessly. I can ping the printer. The airport extreme base and the airport express have the latest firmware updates (respectively 5.7 and 6.3) — which may not have been a good idea, I agree. Airport has also the latest version (4.2), on all computers, and they all have 10.4.6 installed.

What is happening:
The first time, everything works, even without driver. But then begins the troubles. It begins to ask for the driver (ok, it's normal, but why didn't it the first time?).

And then somewhen nothings works anymore (it even stopped in the middle of a print).

The strange part is that I can scan without trouble. But not printing. Sometimes, when I reconfigure the network parameters of the printer (re-initializing and entering the same thing again), it works again for one or two prints.

I've tried to set a static IP (it works, I checked with ping), hoping it will help, but in vain.

Of course, everything works without problem with USB.

Does anybody here has any step-by-step I could try? Some things I could check? I got a correct level in computer science, so if there is a tricky method, don't hesitate to tell me so.

Cheers,
kaz

I'm unsure what you mean by Airport compatible i.e. does it have to connect to an Airport basestation or 802.11g?

I have a Powerbook connected to a Netgear DG834G wirelessly using WEP128. I also have an Airport Express, a Windows 2000 laptop, a Windows XP, Pocket PC, and a Canon Pixma iP4000R all wirlessly connected. Printing works flawlessly.

Previously I had an Epson connected thru the Aiport Express via USB and this also worked without hiccups.

To setup, I followed the Canon instructions to the letter.

I hope I've answered the question, though if you refer to the Airport Base Station specifically, I'm sorry. However, I always thought the AEBS was just a normal 802.11b/g device.
