Fully agree. Don't care about eye candy UI as long as the basic and advanced features are not supported. Especially in that area of the network routers which is quite sensitive and very demanding.
Let's keep working with the serious 5.6 version and just ignore this 6 toy.
I am running 10.7.4, and tried to add my airport express. Obviously I came upon a service advisory warning telling me that the current version of Airport (6) does not support my hardware. When I tried to install the airport 5.6.1, my computer will not allow me to do so, saying that the version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported. Any ideas?

If you check the notes on the download page for 5.6.1, you will see that this version is for Snow Leopard and Leopard Macs only.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Looks like 5.6 doesn't run under Mavericks. Why make tools that can support dozens of connected devices and provide no way to manage them?

Yes now with Mavericks only Airport Utility 6.3.2 is working.
I had to physically reset an Airport Express
and now I cannot get the green light blinking
with network traffic.
Despite what help says there isn't any option
to do so in Airport Utility 6.
Again handy feature removed !...
