How do i upgrade my Iphone 3gs to iOS 4.3?? bit of a novice and really stuck. Someone told me it would do it automatically but its not when i attach to i tunes

I have a similar question...I have a 2009 3GS, and cannot seem to download iOS 4.3. When i try to update the software in iTunes, i'm met with a message saying i am up-to-date with iTunes. However, when I try to download specific apps for my phone, I'm told I need 4.3. Any suggestions?

Most likely, you have an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS. The latest iOS for the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1 - it's at the end of the line for that model. If you want to use apps that require newer iOS, you'll have to get a newer iPhone model.

It is absolutely a 3GS based on the model #. I should have mentioned that my iOS on my macbook is older, as it's an '07, and I still have Tiger (I know...shame on me 🙂)

You need an iPhone 4S to get past 4.1.1, sorry all the apps stop working it can be updated to 5.1.2 that's all. The iPhone 3GS became discontinued and not worth selling on the market to anyone else. I recently got an iPad 2 the apps are still working after I used iCloud to transfer all apps, photos, contacts, music, TV shows, and movies.

If you want to still use Safari on the iPhone your best best is going to an iPhone 5. Yes these cost money save money and it will be worth the wait. It means your hardware you are using is out of date as they keep updating the software.
