iTunes freezes when trying to add album artwork

I have noticed a long time ago that with 80% of artwork you just have to be patient, but some of them are added in blink of an eye! My question is why? Does it depend on the resolution/size of artwork? Is there a certain standard for iTunes, and the software just trying to scale the cover when it's added?

Not compatible with Itunes. Simply convert AVI to MP4. I suggest "HandBrake". Cheers Steve :-)

Yeah tried it just now and it takes about 1 minute or 2 for the artwork to add so be patient. Stupid itunes! If Steve was still here there wouldn't be these issues!

i have same problem..i want to add cover art to my songs..and when i click pictures....itunes goes nuts.....it just tells me to reopen itunes...anybody has and idea..on whats going on???/

i had the same problemm....when i try to add my pictures to a song...jp..etc...and keep crashing when selecting add picture....it allways crashed....so i try to copy and paste...wouldnt let me.....so i just try dragging the picture to the album art...and it worked....so i guess i will be just dragging them pictures...instead of adding them thru the art window..

Experiencing the freeze problem when adding artwork to movies with 11.1.3 (8) and Mavericks. After 5-7 minutes, the artwork finally loads and I get iTunes back. Highly annoying. Also, a lot of the artwork I had previously added in the last few weeks is gone. Rebuilding is taking forever. Please fix!

The main question is...after 4000 views and almost 2 years of this post, why hasn't Apple fixed this problem? It's obviously a huge headache for everyone who cares about artwork. Is it because iTunes is free?

It's just lag. You have to give it about a minute for the artwork and details to attach. Just let it be and it will work. I've just learned to be patient with it.

Sure, no problem if you just have one cover art to add, but I often import a few collections at a time. The bottom line is that it's unacceptable for any modern software program to take more than 5 seconds to import a simple 20KB .jpg file. I spent 2 hours adding cover art to my collection last night, mainly because the "get album artwork" feature rarely works for video content, regardless of how well you catagorize the metadata. These are major issues that require simple fixes, yet Apple has chosen not to address them in the past 2 years. Could it be the fact we HAVE to use iTunes no matter how buggy it is? ..so what's the rush? The only part of iTunes that works flawlessly is the store ... that's the most important part right?

I thought I had this problem solved, but I was wrong. I have been trying to convert the file format from JPEG to something else such as GIF or PNG to see if it loads faster. I don't think this is going to help, but I'm trying it today.
