Show in finder not working in Safari 5.1.3

I was wondering whether anyone else had this trouble.

After combo update to 10.7.3, in Safari 5.1.3 the "show in finder" magnifying glass will not open my downloads folder to show downloaded files. That is, if I have invoked "Show Downloads" from the View menu in Safari and then hover over the magnifying glass, you see a "show in finder" in gray under the downloaded file's name. In the past, clicking the magnifier then would open a Finder window and highlight the downloaded file. This seems to be broken for me.

Anyone else with this issue?

Mac Pro (Early 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Here's the workaround: http://d43.me/blog/1511/show-in-finder-not-working-in-mountain-lion/

As an aside: OS X is the worlds greatest window manager on top of a Unix-like system. You should NEVER have to reboot for any reason. If a process offends you, restart it.

Most of the time, OS X will restart any process it needs, so all you have to do is kill it, and let OS X restart it for you.

As counterintuitive as it may seem, the problem actually *is* a corrupted Finder preferences file (Users/(your user account)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist). This will cause the little magnifying glass icon that does a "Show in Finder" to not work in multiple applications (e.g. Safari, Transmission, etc.).

Delete 'com.apple.finder.plist' and restart the Finder. You will then (obviously) have to reset all of your Finder preferences.

This is how I fixed the Downloads "Show in Finder" issue in Safari 6.0.2 on my MBP (Mid 2012) running OS X.8.2.

Hi all!

TorontoCarey suggestion was what fixed it for me. I often quit my finder (using a unsupported plist hack) when I do demos. So it seems that when I quit finder and there is an even for finder, appleeventsd seems to get stuck... and killing it fixes the problem. 🙂

Thanks! -Cheers, Peter.

While my previous post about deleting 'com.apple.finder.plist' and restarting the Finder works, the problem returns. So, since restarting '

appleeventsd
' is faster and easier, it's a better--still temporary--solution.

Here's how to do it in AppleScript:

tell application"System Events"

do shell script"sudo killall -KILL appleeventsd"password"your_password_here" with administrator privileges

end tell

Put your system password into the script and save it as an application (bottom of AppleScript's Save dialog). Whenever the little magnifier icon stops revealing what it's supposed to in any application, just run this little script. Things will return to normal.
