How do I transfer large voice memos from iPhone to my computer?

I have a fiarly large file that is from a lecture series that I wish to download on my computer. How do I locate and transfer this file in Windows? I have already tried the 'Include Voice Memos' option and do not get to see the Voice Memo Playlists in iTunes. Also, since this file is over 3hrs long in duration, there is no way that this can be mailed without loosing a considerable portion of it.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1

Wow. This was the ONLY solution that made sense.

I also synced my voice memos and they never showed up in iTunes.

Only by doing the search did I find that they were in fact transferred but iTunes never caught it.

Thanks for the super simply fix to this!

Is this a bug? Is it me or is Apple *seriously* losing its quality control? I'm at the point where with all these bugs and issues I have no desire whatsoever to get the newest apple products or updates. I'm just staying with Apple because currently, it's easier to stay than to switch.

I hope Apple reads the forums

Thanks for the tip Psiffi!!!!

Same thing here. I regularly record long voice memos using the built in app, but now my voice memos will not transfer!!

The last successful transfer was for a memo of length over 1 hour (recorded 3/13/2012, synced 3/14/2012. Since then (3/24/2012) I've recorded another long memo and it refuses to sync. As an experiment, I recorded a short memo and it won't sync either. I am using iTunes version 10.6 on my mac and my iphone has version 5.1. Very frustrating.

Gys!

I have the solution!

I had the same problem, even ticking the box "include voice memos" the sync wouldn't transfer them from my iPhone to the library.. So i tryied to untick it .. and it magically worked! There must be a bug that makes iTunes work the opposite way it is supposed to in this case ...

I also tryied TouchCopy but it doesn't allow to transfer the Voice Memos.. or at least I wasn't able to 🙂

Hope this helps!

Make sure the box is checked under 'music'>'include voice memos. When the sync fails do the following:

Unplug iphone from the computer after the failed sync

- In iTunes, select File –> Library –> Organize Library –> Consolidate files

- Plug in the iphone & sync again.

When you are tying to locate a voice memo in the list of voice memos in iTunes, which appears alphabetically as the playlist 'voice memos' amongst your playlists on the right hand side in iTunes, you can search by date. But here is a cool trick. On your iPhone, before you sync, you can name the memo by tapping the arrow on the right, and then the next arrow on the right, then select a name, or tap custom.

A word of advice: this method, to go to "Organize Library," and choose "Consolidate Files" resulted in the entire library copying --(first problem: I am not sure where the copy is going, but it is 21GB of files.)

Second problem: It copied 539 files -- but not the 32 voice memos I need (interviews conducted in another state for a book I am writing).

I agree that Apple missed the boat here on making it impossible to copy Voice Memos from the iPhone to a computer.

First off, this task should not be this difficult. Apple, please fix this.

But I think I figured it out...

-Connect your iPhone to your computer.

-Left click on your itunes music folder.

-In the search box in the upper right type in "Voice Memos".

-You should see all of your iPhone voice memos, highlight the the ones you want copied.

-Right click.

-Select Add to playlist.

-Pick the playlist want them added to.

-Disconnect your iPhone and test a voice memo to make sure it copied.

It worked for me. I hope it works for you.

Hello to all. The memo transfer thing became a real problem for us, as well. So, we did some searching and came across PhoneView. We downloaded the demo version to check it out first and it worked flawlessly in retrieving our 2 hour Voice Memo recording. Eventhough we love iTunes, PhoneView worked without the use of iTunes and allowed us to save the Voice Memo anywhere we chose on our computer. The App costs $30, but was well worth it. PhoneView.

Here's a link to their screencast: phoneview.mov

Hope this helps!

I was having problems with Voice Memo transfers (still am) but here's what I discovered.

1. the Voice memos were copied to iTunes labeled as their date and time

2 Even if I renamed the files on my iPhone, they were not renamed in iTunes on the computer

I checked the "include" box

I checked the boxes in the Music/Voice Memo listing

3. When I deleted the renamed files from my iPhone, the timestamp labeled files in iTunes were replaced with the renamed files from my iPhone during the next Sync.

AND

the iPhone files (checked in iTunes Voice Memo listing) remained on the iPhone.

I can repeat the process, but it shouldn't be this complex. The process is poorly designed and undescribed.

How do I transfer large voice memos from iPhone to my computer?
