macbook pro 15 2.16 1RAM upgrade to Leopard

Hello geniuses,

I have a dinosaur from 06; MacPro 15 2,2- 2.16Ghz, 1 RAM running 10.4.11 OS.

Question: Can I add another 1 or 2 GB of RAM? OWC says yes, up to 3 GB tested, but 4 can be added.

Question: Main point of this inquiry is to upgrade to Leopard or Snow Leopard if possible. Where and how can I? What do you guys recommend?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.11), not the most savvy

Hello, & a warm welcome to the forums! 🙂

Yes, it can goto 3 or 4 GB of RAM, & you'll need it.

10.6 is far cheaper than 10.5

Leopard requirements/10.5.x...

* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

minimum system requirements

* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)

* DVD drive for installation

* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...

General requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel processor

* 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)

* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

* DVD drive for installation

* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It looks like they might still have it...

If it's a Core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.

I've heard some refer to the "gray" disc to be correct, and "black" not so much. Some have one and not the other, aka, best buy vs online. I'm gonna do the RAM install myself, via OWC, purchase the disc from the site you have mentioned above, and then send it to the guys here in Cambridge to do the back up, wipe clean, and reinstall of disc. Thanks again...i'll keep you posted. If you need any help with Real Estate needs, maybe I can return the helpful gesture!
