iphone 4 mail with error message cannot get mail the user name or password for "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect.

On my iPhone 4, I recently downloaded the game app, Zynga Poker (same company who produced Words With Friends). The game app requires players to sign in with their Facebook account or sign in as Guest, I chose to sign in with the Facebook account. I have been playing the game for about a month, for some reason, it won't let me login to the game... but it is asking me to login with a different Facebook account, I chose not to. What I don't understand is this, the e-mail I used for the Facebook, all of the sudden gave me an error message on my iPhone saying that your mail cannot be accessed/updated with that e-mail account. All of the other e-mails I use on my iPhone can update and receive mails automatically just fine, but with that particular e-mail account it keeps having error notices pop up on my iphone (quite annoying); I tried changing the web-mail password from my laptop, and then tried changing the e-mail account password on my iPhone 4, it doesn't work; I tried deleting the account and re-creating it, it still doesn't work.


I tried resolving the issue by the doing the following Step-by-Step on my iPhone 4 AFTER I have changed my webmail from my laptop:


1. Touched 'Settings'

2. Touched 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'

3. Touched the e-mail account I am having issues with.

4. Touched the 'Account myemailaddress@yaho... >' button

5. Changed my password to correspond with what I had changed on my webmail - on my laptop.

6. A window pops up and displays the following:


'Cannot Get Mail


The user name or password for

"apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com' is

incorrect.'


I tried resolving the issue by deleting the account and re-adding it on my settings by doing the following:


1. Touched 'Settings'

2. Touched 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars'

3. Touched 'Add Account... >'

4. Touched the 'Yahoo!' button

5. Didn't enter under 'Name,' but entered under 'Address,' and entered my new password under 'Password."

6. A window pops up and displays the following:


'Cannot Get Mail


The user name or password for

"apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com' is

incorrect.'


I have paid this ridiculous new fee of $69.00 for Apple Care and called the tech support, NONE of them have a clue! I have looked up several discussion forums, a lot of people/users/customers have the same exact problem, but no solution to resolve this! No articles from Apple, no solutions from Apple, nothing.


The tech support responded with this, "Apple will only post an article about this issue only if there is enough of complaints about it..." I then responded with this, "I think Apple should not only write an article but write a new patch to resolve this problem even if it's A complaint from ONE customer! That way, which I'm sure the same problem will re-occur again, it will SAVE BOTH the Tech Supporters', MY TIME, and OTHER CUSTOMERS' time in the future! It's ridiculous that they put me on hold three times for a total of TWO HOURS trying to get this problem solved, and what do I get in the end AFTER PAYING $69.00, and TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE that I will NEVER get back??? Is this, "I'm sorry, we cannot help you."


Great job Apple, just FANTASTIC, ingenious how you rob people of THEIR MONEY AND TIME in a time like this where our economic situation is at the bottom of the barrel!!!!

Responding to the half of your post that wasn't a rant, try the following:


  • Re-delete the account from mail
  • Do a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost
  • Try re-adding the account after it reboots

If you work for Apple, I would suggest that the tech support be as competent, proficient, and succinct as you.


If you don't, then I would still suggest the same thing.


It worked, but I will add that the aforementioned solution you provided I had tried and didn't work that time, but why as to the solution works now is beyond me. Nevertheless, it worked.


Again, thanks for overlooking my "rant;" Not that I condone it, but I felt that my "expression" was necessary to effectively convey the urgency and importance in my message. I hope anyone else who needs help will see this thread.

I have the same problem as amityknight , but on my ipodtouch. I've deleted and reinstalled over 10 times, but still get the same error message. It all started when I changed my yahoo password. I then changed the passord on my ipod/yahoo mail to the correct password and everything worked fine for about 24 hours before I started to get the error message "apple.imap.yahoo.com is incorrect" . Interestingly enough, I can still send emails through this broken account, but no incoming emails show up. I'm prepared to do a factory restore as a last resort if that might help. Do you have ideas for me?? Thanks

My Yahoo email account worked just fine on my iPhone 4S for the last 2 months. Then this morning I started receiving the apple.imap.mail,yahoo error. I tried all of the steps above in solving the yahoo email issue including numerous hard re-sets and deletions of my yahoo account settings without any success. So I gave up trying to use the default Yahoo setup option. I added my Yahoo account back as an "other" type email account and then had the option to choose to set it up as a "POP" account instead of an IMAP type. I then just used the server settings recommended from Yahoo Help for a Yahoo Plus Email POP (or just google yahoo plus email pop settings). This works and I am back in business.


I'm not sure if this will work for yahoo mail classic accounts.


Frustrating that this issue seems to have been going on for quite awhile and Apple still as not made any acknowledgement of this issue or proposed a fix for those of us that can not resolve the issue with a reset.

I have the exact problem, I have 2 yahoo accounts. One works while the other doesnt. This is so frustrating as I rely on my email as a primary form of communication. I havent had any issues since i first added the account and received my phone.

I have deleted the account more times than i can count..

I have rebooted, powered the phone off, left it off...

I have changed my password, ive done everything. Does this issue eventually resolve on its own or do i need to create a new account?

I'm experiencing the exact same issues. This is ridiculous. One minute, I'm getting my emails just fine, then the next, my inbox just has messages that says "This message has no content." I've had this issue couple of weeks ago, and I remedied it by delete the accounts and recreating them. Now this method doesn't work anymore. I'm experiencing the issue on both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts

I deleted the Yahoo email account that was having the problem and then did the hard reset. All of my email accounts were gone after this reset. I have 4 Yahoo, 1 iCloud, 2 Gmail and 1 Exchange. I have had to reenter all of these. The one that was having the problem worked after re-entering. Now it is back to having problems again. I get The user name or password is incorrect for this account. I know it isn't because it was verified and previously downloaded the emails for this account.


Any other suggestions?
