My MacBook Pro crashed and won't restart

Today I was watching a movie on iTunes when the screen froze. I tried force quitting iTunes but it wouldn't react to control+command+del. When everything on the screen froze and remained that way, I shut down the computer by holding down the power. When I later tried to restart it would start making this screetching sound ending with a click and then go silent again. After some time a picture of a folder with a question mark would appear on the otherwise blank screen. Finally the computer would shut down by it self after some 30 minutes or so. Please help!

Much appreciated.

if its still not doing any thing this may or may not help u

Instead of running the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility, you can start up in Single User Mode and run fsck:

That will repair the hard drive directory if the drive is in good mechanical order, possibly resolving the ballkiness mentioned in your first post. If the drive has suffered any damage in the fall, directory and file corruption may return quickly. I recommend backing up the hard drive ASAP if the machine will run long enough to do it.

You can try running Apple Hardware Test without the Applications disc. If you have a unibody MBP and your hard drive has never been reformatted, it may work:

if its like the above picture in my last post

There is a hardware test which you can try with the restore DVDs.

Look here for instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 .

Look here to further identify your system: http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...acbookpro.html based on date of original purchase.

The Penryn system architecture was used for a while, so there is more than graphic card that has been used with those models.
