I updated my mid-2010 MBP EFI earlier today. I just checked for updates and Software Update is reporting I'm all up to date. Maybe you should see if you can let the system try and run the update again and see if that fixes things.
I have ran the update software four times and no change has occured
I'm having the same problem as you.
My Boot ROM is stuck at MBP61.0057.B0C instead of MBP61.0057.B0F (EFI 2.6) no matter how many times I run the updater via Software Update or the manually downloaded updater... 😟
Anyone have any idea? Tried running Disk Utility to check HDD permission etc, all are well.
Did you checked if your disk partition scheme is "GUID" and the partition format is "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)"?
Here's an Apple KB article talking about EFI updates:
does your mac beep during the reboot?it should.
I would also check out this page as well just to make sure you need 2.6

Just to add to what Richard said, when installing an EFI update you must keep your Mac's power adapter connected. Also you will see your Mac's sleep light indicator blinking just before the EFI installation and hear a long beep sound along with a Apple Logo with a progress bar. These are indicators that the EFI is installing. Once your Mac reboots go to Apple Menu> About This Mac> More Info, check the "Boot ROM version" it should finish with".B0F" after updating.
I'm having the same issue. It's super annoying and I think it's preventing me from getting the latest Mac OS X update... Is there a solution out there?
I've checked and I'm using the correct GUID scheme and I am connected to the power mains with nothing else connected to my MBP.
Hello!
After spending some time on the apple hotline and not getting anywhere, I caved and re-installed lion from a usb-drive. all in all it took about 12 minutes. easy, relatively clean fix - probably overkill.
...
well, an update to my update...
since, after the lion re-install, software update offered me different updated than before, I had assumed that the problem had resolved itself. However, now the loop is back. :-(
Hope this gets fixed at some point...
Found out how to fix this, the mac needs to be plugged into a power supply for the EFI update to work
I've been plugged in every time I've tried to run the update - I still get the same behavior.
My MBP goes through all the morions (restart, flashing sleep indicator light, beeeeeeeeep, progress bar, restart) but the bootrom version never changes and I get the same update prompt when I run 'software update'.
Very strange.
Strange that no one from Apple Inc. replied on the questions about EFI 2.6 update problems. I have the same issues as mentioned above. Weird!!!!
I have a similar but different problem. I think the EFI update installed again and now after all the lights and beeps, a second firmware installation bar that shows briefly but doesnt load any firmware, the MacBook Pro wont go past the grey screen with a spinning cursor.
Nothing progresses.
How do you get past that phase?
Any suggestions?
Hi,
I have the exact same problem. I get a returning update message for the EFI 2.6 firmware. I did not get past this phase too. What I do realise is that i do not have the recovery HD installed because I have a recovery USB-stick. I wondered if that might have effect on the impossibility to install the EFI 2.6 update.
Do you have your recovery HD removed as well?
