Full SATA 3 support for optibay

Hello,

I'm the happy owner of a 2011 MBP 8,2 and have an SSD installed as the hard-drive and am enjoying the speed of SATA 3 (6GB). I have installed the original Apple hard-drive in the optibay as my backup/storage disk which connects at SATA 2 (3 GB) speeds. However, when testing the Optibay with a SATA 3 hardrive, the system will not recognize the drive although the link speed is showing 6 GB available. My reading and experience to date tells me that full SATA 3 support is not available for the optibay. I have the latest updates, so Is there a firmware or procedural fix for this type of support?

That's my dilemma. So is there a chance the adapter is a problem?

Could be. What make is it? Is it one of the cheap ones from eBay? I bought the MEC. Yes expensive but it came with a case and cable for the SD and a program to run the DVD Player app which doesn't work with the superdrive as an external.

It is a cheap one, but looking at it, the board is rather simple so not sure how it would mess up. Do you have a link fo the kit you bought?

Shootist you seem to be very well versed in this issue so I have a few questions... I'm looking to add an optibay to my Early 2011 13" MBP and want to put a SATA III 6gb/s drive in my optibay but I'm not 100% that it will support it. How do I find out?

Strangest set of circumstances I have come across when troubleshooting a machine and I haven't the knowledge of OSX to understand what the bottleneck is. The good news is I have found the workaround that allows 6g speeds from my SSD in optibay, only have to be running BMST everytime I wanted to read or write... :-|
