How do get Lion to show library in user/library I have tried -chflags nohidden ~/Library/ in terminal ,new command and it comes up No such file or directory
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. Paste the following command line at the prompt:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.
Thats what I tried and it appeared not to work, I was in icon view and its not showing there but it is showing in list and other views. Thanks for your help.
So far I am not liking Lion, never had so many little nigles with Snow Leopard.
In the finder select Go To Folder and type ~/Library
Or hold down the Alt key when selecting the Go menu and the user Library will now be one of the options.
Hope that helps.
You need to restart for the affect to take place.😉
The 'Go To Folder' and the 'Alt' key work without having to reboot or the use of any Terminal commands.
I find the Alt key method simple and quite effective.
To each his own. I prefer having it permanently visible. I'm not a party to Apple's apparent paranoia.
How about the really simple for those Terminal averse and the not apparently paranoid:
Use the Go to Folder option and then, once in the Library, drag it to the sidebar of the Finder. Now you have a shortcut to the Library at all times.

haha. very good Terence. most sensible answer I have seen for it.
thank you
Probably useful for those who display the sidebar. I'm not one of those, disdaining it along with icon and column views. I use list view with no sidebar. Never found it useful, just like Mission Control, Spaces, or LaunchPad. Like I said. To each their own.
This may be a fluke but I clicked on the Macintosh HD icon on my desktop and it brings up Library (along with Applications, System, Users) in a Finder window.
In list view I can click on the triangle and the library list opens.
And it's easy to drag to the sidebar.
that would be Library, not user library. there is also system library, don't get confuse
Maybe I am confused; they look the same to me. Also tried ~/Libray with allt & it looks the same. As I said it may be a fluke. Or I am not getting what everyone is looking for.
Sorry to bother if I got it wrong, will continue to work on it. Thanks for your response.
there is Library in hard drive, Library in System folder and Library in User, your name folder which is the one talking about here being invisable. all these librarys are different.
Okay, I'm seeing some differences, some overlap. Need more work to see what it all means!
you should type it correctly, then restart.
there are about 17 ways to make the Library visible, google it
