2012 Honda CRV Blue Tooth audio streaming

I'm having trouble getting music from my I Phone 4 to play over my 2012 Honda CRV sound system. I know my phone can be connected via the USB, headphone jack or blue tooth, but no matter which set up I select I have to keep fiddling around to get music for I Tunes to play over the sterio system. Has anyone mastered this yet?

I have a 2012 Honda CRV (w/o Nav) and the iPhone 4s. I was having problems with Pandora not always working correctly. Finally, I think I have found the proper sequence of steps to follow. This seems to work all the time for me now if you do them in this order:

1) Turn on the power button for the radio

2) Change the source to BTA (blue tooth audio)

3) Start Pandora on your iPhone (do not start it before this step and do not plug into the USB port yet)

4) Wait for the BTA to pick-up the audio (it sounds better and louder than the USB connection)

5) After audio is playing via blue tooth, plug in the phone to the USB port

6) Press the AUX button to change the radio source from BTA to USB

7) Enjoy Pandora

I put a copy of these instructions in the Notes application on my iPhone in case I need to refer to them.

Solution for USB playback:

I just purchased a 2012 Honda CRV, sans navigation, and WAS having problems connecting my iPhone 4 via the USB. I could see the album artwork and the music playing but no sound. Played and played with it and finally discovered the solution. In order for the phone to work via the USB, with blue tooth on, you must change the settings on the phone by opening the iTunes music app. On the bottom right side of the app you will see an arrow pointing up. Click on the arrow and a screen will pop up giving you a choice to connect your phone via the USB or via bluetooth. You must select the USB connection. After doing this you may still not hear any sound. You only need to forward to the next song. Works for me everytime. Bluetooth also continues to work.

Should you lose the sound you need to go back to your phone, as described above, and change the setting back to USB.

I have a problem with my new CRV and iPhone 4 I haven't seen mentioned yet. The connection seems to get stuck in Pandora and I can't get it to switch to my music on the phone. It plays fine (mostly), but nothing I do to switch to my own music seems to work. This seems to be the case whether in USB or Bluetooth. I've only had the CRV a few days now, but its pretty annoying. This morning when I plugged it in, my music did play - until I switched to something else and then tried to switch back. Sure hope Honda or whoever can get this fixed.

I just got my 2012 CRV EX last Friday, and immediately enjoyed the flawless bluetooth connection to my iPhone 3gs, or so I thought. Flawless while my iPhone is connected to the charger. If not, or if my iPhone is in my pocket or just in the cup holder, I either get erratic connection, or the screen display is stuck on just one song, or the screen display says "No Device Connected", even though the bluetooth is on.

So I've determined that for the bluetooth connection to perfectly work, the iPhone has to be connected to the charger. Turn bluetooth on and connect to charger before starting your car, and enjoy unhampered and uninterrupted music!

The only thing now I noticed now is that the sound quality coming from a bluetooth connection is so different from actually playing a CD. The sound quality is miles away when playing a CD, no contest! Hope I can discover the setting needed so that my songs off my iPhone play as crisp and loud as the CD...

I spoke too soon in my perivous post.

Just to follow up after close to thousand miles of the BT testing, it has problem after 30 mins playing song via BT. It is getting annoying when you are driving, I have to turn off the BT on my iPhone 4S and reconnect it......

I really doubt calling Honda will solve it problem... maybe it is just easier to buy the BT car adapter from Logitech, I might go for that if I can't stand for it.

Update: So the streaming started working beautifully on its own. I haven't had any issues with it for at least 4 months now. What did I do? Not sure...I just went to the apple store and told them my sob story. They checked my phone and said there was a problem with my s/w and I needed a restore. Phone and music streaming has been working well since the restore. The only issue I see now is that when I turn off audio and turn it on again, music starts to skip. It's quite annoying but it resolves itself in a few minutes.

So I have a 2013 CRV EX-L and quickly fell in love with the USB connection to my brand new, 7th gen iPod nano. Well, a week into using it, I am consistently getting a 'USB Error' message on the screen and in order for my iPod to reconnect via USB, I have to turn off/on the vehicle. It doesn't seem to matter if the iPod is playing a song d/l'ed from iTunes or one burnt from a CD. I have been to my Honda dealership and they are 'looking into it.' They have not had any other issues reported to them and there is no Honda update for the computer available to 'fix' this problem.

Okay, next food for thought...I also have my iPhone 5 hooked up via BT but I only use it for calls. I don't have iTunes on my phone as I am completely fine with my very large music library to live exclusively on my iPod. With that said, is there any known issues with, say, interference? Since my iPhone 5 automatically synces with the car's BT each time I get in, maybe there is an issue? What can I do in iTunes to fix this (if anything)?

Thanks all!

Yeah I have the exact same problem with my 2013 civic. Same fix too, you have to turn the car off to clear the message then it works again. I took it to the dealership they kept it for part of the day and then told me that they called Honda, and Honda says its something with the ipod itself, maybe the way files are arranged on it.

Also I don't know that there would be interferences issues, but if your iphone is connected through bluetooth, I'm not sure your car with let you pair your ipod thru bluetooth. I am interested to know if that will work too.
