Everything else will sync (photos, contract etc) except for the music.

Has anyone else experinced this problem? Any solutions?

Actually I had all the above 'greyed out circle' problems on my 4s. It was a setting on my phone that stopped the syncing.

Go to Music, Other, Shared. Makes sure that it is the Library not the iPhone that is shared otherwisde it just shares whats alreadfy on the phone.

I think some of the solutions below amount to the same thing but resetting the whole phone is a long way to get to this!

Hope it helps

OK, so i downloaded the new Software and was very hopeful that the problem will be fixed. Apparently not, still not syncing. But at least the 'Facebook call problems were fixed' according to the reasons of the new software existence!! That is so nice, I must say!!!!! Sorry for being sarcastic but this is very annoying, I want to be able to sync my music and soon, like yesterday!!! Fix it NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem and have tried ALL these suggestions with very limited success. There appears to be a "disconnect" with the ITunes software on the PC/Mac and the SYNC function when the iPhone is connected with a USB cable.

( I won't even try wireless until this is resolved. If it has problems with a cable connection, wireless is not a solution!)

What I've noticed is that any selections made, ( or NOT made ), with music in the iTunes library are completly ignored during the sync. Only what is specified under the music tab of Sync function are attempted. Artists, if checked in Sync loads ALL that artist's music. Records that are checked loads the entire record, including selections NOT checked in the iTunes library.

The only way I've found to get even close, is to sync the entire record. However, that only works after first Unchecking the Sync Music box , syncing, ( which wipes out all music from the iPhone), THEN rechecking the Sync Music box and applying the Sync.

When you are reloading 600+ songs this is no real work-around, plus there are not many records that I include all tracks, so this quickly eats up the available space.

Has anyone noticed the same symptoms and discovered a work-around ? And by anyone I mean APPLE !!!

My itunes wouldn't sync to iphone, either. I couldn't get my playlists to copy from my macbook itunes to my iphone 4s. I always "sync selected playlists". This time they showed up on my macbook screen listed as if they had copied to the iphone, but the tunes were greyed out on the mac and the iphone didn't show any of the changes. Didn't matter if I checkboxed-and-sync'd them or direct-dragged them to copy them: nothing budged.

Johnf70's advice solved it for me, too:

"Try this: Plug in your phone and open iTunes. On the sidebar click "Your" iPhone > Summary... go down to Options and uncheck everything. Then sync. By doing that all of my music was restored to my phone. Never had issue with my apps so that was fine. Afterwards I checked "Sync only checked songs and videos", resynced and everything was back to normal... for now."

One change: I actually left "convert higher bit rate songs..." checked, just to see if I could stay with that option (more tunes, less space) and that worked fine. All my chosen playlist songs -- the ones I had already checked as "sync selected playlists" under the Music tab -- began copying over when I hit "Apply settings/sync." (I'd already backed everything else up, because I'd been trying to sync for an hour already, so it went pretty quickly.)

I looked at lots of more complicated solutions in other threads involving icloud, match, double rebooting, and whatnot. I'm really glad this straightforward one worked, even though I don't know what the problem is (darn you, apple!) or why this solution works. Thanks, Johnf70!

with my iphone 4s, I had this issue when syncing my playlists. Very interestingly it DID sync music when I starred it. Unstarred music did not sync. I now got an iPhone 5 which I set up by just restoring the 4s data. With the new phone - same settings - it works fine!! Very strange.

As my primary phone I have a galaxy s4 and with simple drag and drop I have have these issues - the iTunes support is currently really disappointing.
