7.6.1 Internet Disconnection

Hi folks.

Upon upgrading my Extreme to 7.6.1, I'm having disconnection problems. This is what I have done:

- restarted modem and router in the proper sequence, many times

- asked my ISP to investigate the drops. They said it was a user request. The last one, where my system dropped then came back up within a minute, was labelled as a user request. The modem never dropped anything, and my speed attentuation and all that hasn't been an issue at all. They doubled my speed recently, and everything was fine.

- looked for a log on the router, but Apple's infinite wisdom has taken that away.

So everything including the modem is fine. There is indeed a problem with the new router.

Any insight appreciated. Also, if you experience this, please reply and indicate you are seeing the same thing.

Cheers

P.S. "7.6.1" reminds me of the issues around OS 7.5 and incremental "fixes"

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Hypercard UG!

Having a similar issue, since updating to 7.6.1 I have had multiple dropouts and connection issues with the wireless.

My speed is not the best on ADSL2 anyway (I am in Australia, crap internet at the best of times).

I was getting 4.87mbit with 7.6 now 0.7mbit with 7.6.1. I rolled back to 7.5 adn I am back to 4.8mbit.

Spoke to Apple care and I have been advised to update again and send screen shots....what a hassle.

Also noticed that the new Air Port Utility 6.0 deletes and also does not give the ability to roll back Firmware versions like 5.6 did.

Well I appologise I hit the 5 key instead of the 6 key when I typed the version. Therefore just to clarify I am going from 7.6 to 7.6.1 to 7.6 to 7.6.1 to 7.6

Ok just a keystroke error, same as the way I spelt "and" in that message, I typed "adn" just a mistake, sorry.

Thanks Bio I think I will try what you suggested, saving the config and resetting, although not for a while as i have a couple of big photographic projects and I need to be able to, reliably move some data around.

Cheers

I'm having the same issues. Updated to firmware 7.6.1 and Airport configuration Utility 6.0.

  • Now I'm not able to use Wifi from my MacBook. Using AC 6.0 it tells the connection with my provider is disconnected.
  • However on my OIS devices I'm experiancing really slow Wifi
  • And Finally useing My IMac (connected to the TC via UTP) I'm able to connect to the internet just fine. The AC 6.0 is telling it is connected perfectly...

I've tried downgrading my TC and AE to 7.6 and 7.5.2 without any success. Setting to factory defaults same result. And it's a shame apple removed functionality in the AC application. Your less lesf supporting.

I've no good alternatives left other then connecting my MacBook via UTP and don't stream video and do heavy stuff on my IOS devices.

If anyone has a suggestion please tell me.

Marco, sorry to hear you are having this issue. I finally seemed to have got my APE to work by using 7.6 and APU 5.6.

I also discovered another issue, I also have an Air Port Express which stopped connecting to the network, what I did was reset the Express back to Factory default by depressing the reset button for 10 seconds then when it finally was recognised in the Airport Utility I ran the connection wizard.

Have you tried Resetting your Extreme and run the Wizard to see if that cleans out any issues and gets you up and runing again.

Good Luck

I found that restarting my AE unit took some time. It's just a computer, probably running on Linux, or a modified Mac OS. When things get confused in its non-volatile memory, it takes forever to start up. Resetting to factory and redoing all its settings, erased this confusion and the unit started up much quicker, not to mention erasing problems.

What I suggest is exporting the settings, resetting to factory defaults, then importing the settings. That should work. If not, then redoing the whole settings from factory default settings manually should make sure it's not a device problem.

BTW my connection has been pretty solid since settling down.

HI, I've downgraded to version 7.5.2 on both my TC and AE. On the iMac used the 5.6 APU. After which I did a hard reset of both TC ad AE, and setting them back to factory defaults. Result I've got my speed back, the iMac is running great as all my IOS devices. In fact all my wifi devices.

There is just one glits. My MacBook Pro still is not able to access The Internet, it works perfectly on wifi (printing streaming to ATV is working). Any suggestions?

Same for me. On 3rd gen time capsule and after upgrading to 7.6.1, I was getting .4 to .7 download and 1.5 upload. After seeing these posts and suffering enough for 2 weeks on the update, I downgraded to 7.5.2 and back enjoying my usual 14 download. Doing the math, that's 20 to 35 times faster - where was the QC process at Apple?

BioRich & Cool-R thanks for the tips on accessing the older firmware versions. They say you learn something new everyday. 😉 Reverting back to v7.6 seemed to do the trick for me as things have stabilized tremendously and I have not encountered any drops in WiFi connection on my MacBook Pro since rolling back. You guys saved me from ripping out my hair! Thanks again!

Well my router was dropping twice a day. Unacceptable. Here is the log for the last crash when I was not even anywhere close:

Just used AU 6.0 to set my firmware to 7.6 by Option-clicking the version number. Was rather simple, actually. No logs in AU 6.0, but as the log above indicated, nothing other than "Disconnected" was being displayed. Not too useful for troubleshooting, if you ask me.
