7.6.1 Internet Disconnection

Having a similar issue, since updating to 7.6.1 I have had multiple dropouts and connection issues with the wireless.

My speed is not the best on ADSL2 anyway (I am in Australia, crap internet at the best of times).

I was getting 4.87mbit with 7.6 now 0.7mbit with 7.6.1. I rolled back to 7.5 adn I am back to 4.8mbit.

Spoke to Apple care and I have been advised to update again and send screen shots....what a hassle.

Also noticed that the new Air Port Utility 6.0 deletes and also does not give the ability to roll back Firmware versions like 5.6 did.

You can download Airport Utility 5.6 that you can use instead of Airport Utility 6.0

5.6 has logs etc., just like the prior 5.3 version

This way you can view your logs and see what is going on.

I don't mind the look of the window too much but 6.0 sure doesn't have the same ability to change things as the 5.6 version does.

Note:

You can't throw 6.0 away as the system won't let you.

You can however use either one you choose to use once you download 5.6

Thankfully Apple posted the AirPort Utility 5.6!

This is yet another case of the post-Steve Apple. Releasing new versions and removing features. Lion has lost so many APIs under the covers, and features that are still available in _some_ cases but no longer exposed in the user interface.

Is this AirPort Utility 6.0 really supposed to be better? I think it's garbage!

I have similar disconnects, but they started before upgrading the firmware. Definitely try downgrading the firmware in your case. It looks like Airport Utility 5.6 and 6.0 only apply to Lion (?). I have one machine running Lion that prompts to upgrade AU, but my machine running Snow Leopard doesn't. AU 5.5 or 5.6 should do the trick for you to select a firmware version of your choice.

Well I finally have come to the conclusion that there is defiantly something going on with the 7.6.1 update. I have switched back and fourth a few times from 7.6.1 to 7.6 and so fourth, each time I am using 7.6.1 I start having issues with the wireless, it takes about an hour or so then the connection drops significantly.

The figures are something like 4.8mb to 0.7mb. Very drastic. I then went back to 7.6 and all has been running well for about 30 hours.

One of the big issues I have is that version 6.0 of the Air Port Utility removes the option to change FW versions. I do not understand why they would do this. Apple if you are reading this please put this back in because this has been an example of you not checking your updates and we users that do, do more testing than you are capable of (because there are more of us in different environments) need to have the ability to remove dodgy software and updates until you fix it. This exercise I have just been through has cost me I estimate $4,000 to my business and I am only a small one band operation I would hate to think what it would cost a bigger operation.

Your profile says you are running 10.5.1

Is that correct?

And you are still having problems with Leopard?

You might also tells us what Airport Base Station you are using or maybe some other brand that is giving you this problem...

On another note, it looks like you might be running Lion as you say you are using Airport Utility 6.0

Airport Utility 6.0 does indeed have the option of downgrading the firmware...

I suggest you take another look...

Just to set the record straight, I am running 10.7.3, just havent updated my profile. The Airport is a 2nd Gen Airport Extreem. I may have not seen the ability to downgrade the FW, if so my bad for not seeing it, but, this still is not the issue, I did downgrade the FW and the wireless is now working fine, as I mentioned before I upgraded and the wireless failed then I downgraded and the wireless is working. All in all it has been a costly experience.

I am happy to just leave things alone ATM intil 7.6.2 arrives and maybe try that.

So you are running FW version 7.5 on your 2nd generation Extreme?

I don't have that version showing up. Maybe it is because I have a 4th generation Extreme...

The versions I have showing up are:

7.6.1

7.6

7.5.2

7.5.1

In the new 6.0 Airport Utility, if you option click on the version number it will give you a menu to choose other FW versions.

Joe, If you read my posts I am running currently FW version 7.6 on a 2nd Gen APE with version 5.6 of the Airport Utility. this is what is working for me ATM. When I update to FW 7.6.1 with version 6.0 of the Airport utility this is when the wirless fails.

Problem solved for you running 7.6 then......... or at least for the moment......
