Scam? Yes.

These are user to user discussions and not Apple employees. But Apple finds testers by inviting specific people to participate, not some blanket emailing. That is a highly suspect scam best avoided.

No one but Apple directly can enroll you in a beta program. This is clearly a scam. There have been a lot of reports about it. If your carrier is AT&T or Verizon forward the text to 7726 (SPAM).

Wise move asking on here before jumping in...can sure be tempting but caution is important today with so many on-line scam artists.

I believe I may have received a virus via text message. I'll admit that I stupidly clicked on a link sent to me through a text message and entered the promo code that was also included in that message. I realized what I was potentially doing immediately after hitting "submit" and went into panic mode. I turned airplane mode on and then cleared my history and cookies/date - thankfully I "never" accept cookies and I have private browsing turned ON. Has anyone else encountered something like this? Is there anything I can do to find out if I do in fact have a virus of some sort on my iPhone? If I do have a virus, is there anything I can do myself to remove it? Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

The only thing that might possibly happen is you'll start getting spam from the website you visited.

It's not possible for a web site to gain access to anything outside of the Safari sandbox. Since you've cleared everything, you're ok.
