A Problem Editing a File in TextEdit
Even though my permissions are set to read write, I can't save changes to a TextEdit file. The program keeps saying I don't have permission and asks me if I want to create a duplicate. How can I fix this?

Select the Duplicate option. When the copy appears select Save. A File Save dialog will appear in which you can save with a different name and/or a different location. By default the file is renamed with "copy" added to the filename.
Kappy, thanks for the work-around, but I'm hoping someone can explain why this is happening and how to fix it once and for all.
I get error messages now and then saying I don't have permission to save into the folder I want to save it to. Well, all possible options in the Info window are marked Read AND Write, and the folder is perfectly legitimate, in my Documents folder.
Subsequent message when trying again to close and save the same file: You cannot save this docunent and won't be able to "until the problem is resolved."
I'm surprised that several people have inquired re this recurring problem, but no one seems to know a fix, just a workaround.
Any more clues, anyone?
