Relink event clips and Incompatible file error

I'm so thankful for FCPX 10.0.3 adding the relink ability to events, and I decided to put it to the test today with an updated music score.

Bad idea to do that on a project that was a day away from completion.

After relinking the 1 file that had been updated, 80% of my 1500 clips in the event library went offline. FCPX also renamed those clips in the event library directory with (fcp1) in the end of the filename.

I can manually relink most of those files, but about 15% of them I get an error when selecting relink.User uploaded file

I am reconnecting the file to the exact same file it was connected to in the first place, so I know that the audio source and channel counts haven't changed.

The original clips, by the way, were not copied to the final cut event library but referenced or aliased to a network drive where they are stored.

Below is the screenshot of the FCPX inspector for the missing clip, overlayed with a Quicktime inspector window with the original clip's info. As you can see, they are both 2 channel, 48khz, AAC audio. Nothing has changed. But FCPX won't let me relink it!

Help? Does anyone have any idea how to force FCPX to relink to the file?

So I started the project in 10.0.4

There's a lot of footage in the timeline from three different cameras.

I created proxy media for one of the cameras.

I downloaded mavericks and shortly after FCPX 10.1

I imported/Updated the project.

When it's set to proxy i see the footage that had proxies made.

When i switch it to original media the footage appears black in the event window and doesn't play.

But when I go to the info of a specific clip and go reveal in finder it sure enough finds it.

When I try to relink though I get the incompatible error.

The footage is all stored on an external drive. I haven't moved anything and I haven't edited any of the media.

It should all be the same.

Thanks for your help.

It's weird as the footage doesn't seem to be missing.

If you try and relink the footage then hit the button to just see the missing footage there's nothing there. Yet in the timeline everythings black and you have the red strip above the clips. When you try to relink it back to itself you get the error.

As a short term solution I was thinking I could bring my edit from 10.1 back into 10.0.4.

Is there a way to export an xml that works with older versions of FC?

ok.

Have you verified the media it finds IS the original footage. ( full MBs ) & not a proxy or a link to the real file ?

Can you play it from the external hd ? What is the file extension ? Did you optimize any or all of it ?

Are any other projects effected ? If its only this one , you must have made a mistake with moving the footage . I have had this problem but was so long ago I dont remember what I did to fix it.

Can you do some screen shots of files etc ?

Did you change the name of the event or project at any point ?

Could you have made an optimised version & deleted the original ?

I havent seen the red lines there before , usually there on the clip itself , not at the top.

CAn you show me your original footage file extension..

2013-12-05 20_40_30 (id).mov This is my original footage ( not optimised ) typical file. Same ??
