Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

installd took 130% of CPU and sent temperatures through the roof. Why?

I didn't repair permission, nor software update.
Force quitting the process made everything normal again.
is installd buggy?



Mac OS X 10.7.2 Build 11C74, Macbook pro 2.26 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM.

Easily the best temp/fan control is: SMC fan control. You can easily change your default fan speed and make multiple profiles to quickly turn fan up/down. it displays in the menu bar and uses a max of 0.3% CPU. Since OS X 10.5 it's treated me well. Github, opensource...can't beat it.


Also, installd tried melting my CPU today. I noticed it (thanks SMC ) and killed it like a skillet. 130% hoggin and 156F. But I"m running my fan at double the default RPM & have my mid-2009 MBP seated upon a laptop cool with another fan in it!


It seems like I've been down this road with installd and too tired to chase it down. Wish I'd stayed on 10.6.8


I have 8gb RAM and a 120GB SSD with 10% free space.
