Interesting - Mac OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion"

Just saw this article this morning for the next version of Mac OS X code name Mountain Lion. It's interesting that this new version is slated for this summer and so soon after last summer's release of Lion.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

You can already set a keyboard shortcut for the "Duplicate" menu item, set it to 'cmd+shift+S' and most apps will respect it.

You still get the same messy Lion behavior - where you need to enter a file name when you close it, and there is no indication in the duplicated document close icon that it is unsaved.

I think this broken behavior is just the way Apple thinks it should be done from now on - remove all visual feedback & no one can be confused by it.

Yes I have assigned it to cmd-shift-D but it doesn't work in Pages and Keynote because there are two commands of Dublicate. One for the file and one for objects withing files. But still, dublicate jumping windows is fundamental different than the save-as shortcut. I can't see any advantage. It's stubborn downgrading to the (by nature) limited poor mobile device behaviour.

I do have one question (I am seriously interested in that): Do Apple Employees work with Pages, Numbers and Keynote in their daily work? Do they use Mail app and let their text show in Outlook like messed up?

Spaces is better for you because you are a reactionary! 😀

For my needs Mission Controls is much better organized. And the Full Screen applications are part of it. The difference between SL and Lion full screen applications is the same of Google Chrome full screen before and after Lion came out. Still now application with a pre-Lion full screen (like Skim) do not let access to the Dock (totally disruptive). In the same fashion Quicklook still does. There is not a single argument in favor of the SL full screen. The Lion's one just work.

I'll check about the firmware password. I thought I had read that once we forget the boot password we were doomed. It shouldn't be so if it is even breakable.

Do you know where you read that? Versions and the missing save-as is the greatest pain for me besides the battery issue. I'd like to know more about what's going on there. (Hope they won't sell it as one of the 100 new features LOL)

Hoping I am not breaking any NDA it was from a guys that has access to the Mountain Lion preview. I didn't inquire more because this is not an issue for me. That's why I wrote it may be there.

So is this just going to be a new update that you can buy or are they coming out with a completely new computer? And does anyone know the cost of the M. Lion?

It will be for sure on sale in the Mac Apple Store. This coming summer, according to Apple. One may need to have Lion already installed. Just check if your HW is compatible. 64 bits Macs with the EFI 32 bits won't run Mountain Lion.

Apple idea is to do like with iOS, to have a new OS X release every year. Hopefully it won't obsoete a class of Macs every year as well doing that. This could be the Apple's idea of "post-PC" era. Change computer every 2 years as many people do with the mobile phones. As if my 5 years old MacBook isn't more than enough to do the job. Who needs an I5 or even I7 CPU unless for playing games (but I have the right tool for it, the PS3!).

Today I read at macruors that they only attached the shortcut to the duplicate feature. "S" for Duplicate. Yup.

Ok so my desktop is running lion right now and it is a mid 2010 27in desktop. It has I7 and 8gb memory with a 1TB hard drive. What else do I need to look at to know wither or not if it will run mountian lion. And then I have a laptop that is new. It is running I7 and is running Lion as well. Has a 750 HD with a 4GB Memory.

Thanks for all the help. I just want to make sure that I will be able to use it.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Lion will be able to make you a coffee as well. Just can't remember where I read it but I believe it's true.

Well, according to some, Lion overheats so much that actually putting a coffe pot on top of the Mac you could make coffee indeed!! 😝

Mine doesn't, though. My CPU usage is usually around 10% or less.
