Messages Beta for Mac - Clears history when closed

Very strange. It is a Beta, so chances are its still a bit buggy.

same here, messages are only stored in logs, not in the actual app

I had the same problem until i figured out that for the messages to stay you had to have more than one conversation at a time.

I just opened up File -> Recent Items and opened two previous conversations I had and the conversations are now loaded when I open Messages.

Joe Blogg's "solution" works for me too, however this is still a bug, you should not need to have multiple conversations open in order for them to stick.

This was a HUGE pain to me, I don't like having the message history follow me after I close a chat window....So I've been watching this thread and think I discovered something...

You have to do this for EACH chat instance, or window, but if you go to the TOP MENU BAR and navigate to

EDIT, there is an option near the bottom that says CLEAR TRANSCRIPT with a shortcut key solution to match. This seems to clear our the windows and erase any history.

while this thread is about how to keep the history, your comment shows that we're all different. Some of us are keepers, some of us are deleters, it's just what the way it is ;)
