Have you been paying attention in this thread? No. It will not. If you MUST use 30-year-old software, you will need to use an older Mac (find them on eBay, etc). You can't have it both ways, with both the oldest software and the newest Macs."

I have been paying attention. Please do not be sarcastic. The softare originated in 1987 but of course has been kept up to date, but only to Snow Leopard. The developer has now encountered difficulties. I am a medic, not a computer boffin I am looking for constructive advice. Is there no way to run Rosetta now> I do have an up to date MacBook Pro 5.2 17" 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
No. If this software requires Rosetta it certainly was NOT keep up to date. PowerPC code was on life support since 2005. Apple pull the plug on the life support with Lion.

How about Mountain Lion?
Thanks, Fran
Nope, sorry, you're stuck with Snow Leopard until your software developer updates his product.
How do you do a partition in your Mac?
Warcraft III instaler is a PowerPC app and there is no way Blizzard will update it.

Once you must run Lion (new hardware, iCloud, etc.) consider installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

This solution has worked nicely for people with similarly 'dead-ended" PPC software.
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions are here:
Very good Michael, except the OP asked about Mountain Lion. Your stock standard answer is for Lion. No help I'm afraid.

It's a shame there is no good drawing program for the Mac any longer.
Take a look at LIbreOffice for Mac. It not only does most of the things that MSOffice does; it also includes a drawing application and.....it's free !
This is roughly the story of Rosetta:
Rosetta was a version of the QuickTransit virtualisation programme developed by Transitive Corporation.
IBM acquired Transitive in June 2009 and merged the company into its Power Systems division. The QuickTransit thing was then discontinued.
That's why even if Apple wanted to bring back Rosetta, it would be unable to do so.
Anyone who wants Rosetta or who thinks they may need it, say 10 years further on down the line, should make sure they set aside a copy of Snow Leopard and a computer that is able to run it.
This is a hypothetical question: is it in principal possible to hack rosetta to run on Lion? I am not asking how to do it just whether the software is in principle hackable?

Not practically speaking: the transparent links needed by the operating system, in this case Lion, are missing...
A more practical solution will be some sort of emulator incorporating Rosetta, such as how SheepShaver for Classic Mac software now operates on Intel Macs.
Rosetta is dead. Defunct, gone, finished. That is it. People like Michael and Tom can wish and pray and hack all they want to try to pretend that it isn't and try to keep it's dead heart beating, but it died with Snow Leopard. It is no longer required in Lion and Mountain Lion (when released) and any future OSXs. Life support has been cut off after seven years, and for the handful of people who believe they need to run such outdated programs, then the aincent Snow Leopard is the OSX you are doomed to. That is it. Nada.
Cheers
Pete

I have no wish or prayer to pretend that Rosetta isn't dead. In fact I spent time writing a post to explain exactly why it's dead and won't be coming back. You just didn't bother to read what I said.
And there's no apostrophe in "keep its dead heart beating".

No Tom, no one reads your posts. Sad but true, Now back to the old Snow Leopard corner for you, as you don't even work with Lion. Here is some extra punctuation for next time any of us forget to meet your English standards, old Chap.......,,"''[_-/";;';'..,,,,,''''"""";;;::::

The Power PC has been dead for seven years and is starting
to smell pretty bad. Time to bury it and move on.
