Well, excuse me for drawing breath! Who are you to tell me to move on? I am not trying to hold you back, so why should you try and push me forward? It should be live and let live. You might even be shocked to learn that I hanker for the Classic Apps like Cricket Graph and MacDraw Pro, which the current equivelents can not macth by a long way.

You should stop and think and ask yourself why I am concerned with the loss of my PPC applications. It is because as an old time Mac user I am accustomed to a level of functionallity which has been erroded of late. You may find pleasing the functionallity of the latest Lion offerings such as the cloud, or the launch pad, or the media handling, or whatever. Far be it from me to belittle your interests. I, on the other hand, use my Mac in a professional capacity and none of those things I have just mentioned cut the mustard for me.

I have learned a valuable piece of information in this thread: namely, that you can run Snow Leopard in Parallels. So, please stop trying to suppress the exchange of information... there are plenty of other threads to be contributed to.

You stated; "I, on the other hand, use my Mac in a professional capacity and none of those things I have just mentioned cut the mustard for me."

IMHO that is even more reason to drop the old applications which are no longer being supported. If you are truly using such antiqued code for any kind professional use then you are really leaving yourself open to losing your livelihood.

I can make a chart the Classic App Cricket Graph, copy it to the clipboard and paste it into PowerPoint or a better drawing program and the 'ungroup' command makes each and every element of the chart drawing editable. Every point and segment of line can be tweeked. So perhaps you can help me out here and tell me what combinations of software I need to give me this functionallity back. I am in scientific desktop publishing and I don't want to loose my livelihood, so I am willing to pay if you can name the software I need. No scracasm intended... if you go to the Numbers forum you will see that I have recently asked that question.

You hit the nail on the head.

As an electrical engineer, I do use my Macs in a professional capacity

and in my business, you either keep up to date or your out of work

while the rest of the world passes you by.

Hello

How about Rosetta?

I have used 2 sophisticated specialist medical software applications since 1987, my whole practice is there, but I cannot use Lion as Lion rejects Rosetta. How about Mountain Lion?

Thanks, Fran

I asked this question, I am Fran. It was a question to obtain an answer. I am not making a point or trolling or inviting rude comments. I have used Macs exclusively since 1987 but I am not a techie. My work is medical and I use sepcialist software for my specialism, the software was created in the Bay area of California. (I am in London). The creator of the sofware was a good friend and died and his company went into limbo while his estate and ownership of the company was sorted. The applications run on Snow Leopard on Intel processors. Until they are upgraded we are stuck with this slightly older version.

I am happy to say that the company has been rescued and the applications are being upgraded in Tel Aviv. I do not know how long this will take but the word is it might be done before the end of 2012.

Just for the curious the medical specialism is homeopathy and the software programs are called MacRepertory and ReferenceWorks (TM).

Please stop the distasteful wrangling and point scoring, keep that for Twitter. This is a forum of answers and question for Mac users.

Warm greetings from wet London

Fran

Fran:

As I replied for you before, for Lion, see this post:

I think my prior post got lost in the noise!!

Running Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) in Parallels 7 is one way that you can run your software on a Lion machine. Many people in similar situations as you have done this successfully:

For Mountain Lion, I cannot predict the future, but I have to assume that Parallels will continue to function in Mountain Lion and should still allow Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) to function.

For more information, go to this thread and I am happy to help you as much as I can:

The question asked in the title of the thread is Will Mountain Lion Ron Power PC (Rosetta), and the answer is a simple no. Nothing complicated. If you wish to use Power PC programs do not update from Snow Leopard. A few people have chosen to do this and have now given up future support for both their OSX and the old PPC programs which won't be developed or updated.

Cheers

Well, this is sad, because some of us use programs that are upgradeable, but we either don't use them enough to justify upgrading or can't afford to upgrade. And these programs are the only thing that will do what we need them to......ie Photoshop CS.......Illustrator 10.........After Effects 5.5.......Boris Red and Continnumm Complete. I still use these applications in Final Cut Pro 4 and Final Cut Express......Not to mention the new version of Final Cut has to have too much processor for me to run.....and doesn't have any type of machine control capability to boot!

Then why did you upgrade when the documentation made it very clear that these PPC programs would no longer be supported?

I didn't.....I was using these programs before the Intel chipset was even announced, much less being used.....

Kevin

Exactly Kevin: The beauty of Rosetta was that it was transparent. You would have no idea you were using PowerPC applications on an Intel based Mac.

Some readers on ths forum just have no comprehension of this situation. They only want to recriminate your update to Lion/Mountain Lion when you have NO IDEA that the software that has worked for you FOR YEARS will suddenly stop working.

This is not kindergarden; we do not want to point fingers are you. We want to provide solutions. Ignore the naysayers and trolls...

I have been using the Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) installed into Parallels 7 in Lion solution since I purchased my mid-2011 Mac Mini almost one year ago. It gives me access to Photoshop CS, Microsoft Office 2004 and other PPC applications that I am either unable or unwilling to upgrade.

i have helped others who run other PPC software, such as Aldus, Scrabble and more!

It is a solution not a recrimination!
