Possible Solution to Magic Trackpad Stuck "Select" Button?

I posted this as a reply to another user's thread. Thought others might want to give it a try.

1) In Trackpad Settings, de-select the "Tap to Click" and "Three Finger Drag" options and close setting pane.

2) Turn your Magic Trackpad off, leave it off for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.

3) Use your Magic Trackpad, cross your fingers and hope that this "Magic Trackpad Elixir" works as a long-term fix until Apple gets the firmware for the MT revamped to work properly.

I used a "shotgun" fix here, so I can't be sure whether any one or any particular combination of these approaches ultimately resolved the problem. Most were suggested by other users as stand-alone fixes. My spin on these was shutting off "tap and click" when I discovered that the trackpad had become extremely hypersensitive once I shut off the "three finger drag" option (It was "selecting" text and opening hyperlinks at the slightest feather-light-touch of the trackpad, without ever clicking on it.)

I threw all of these together out of desperation, after NONE of the individual fixes listed on the board seemed to be anything more than a temporary (30 minutes or less) solution.

I have a long-winded version of this posted as a reply to another thread. There may be some details in that thread that point to a cause for the problem, and maybe a firmware fix as well...but everything I have read seems to point to a firmware problem here.

So far, so good. My MT has been working properly since I hit it with the shotgun blast I described above, over two hours ago. No promises, but this might be worth a try for those frustrated users of Magic Trackpads who are increasingly tempted to take a 20# sledge to them.

Stay tuned ...

Stay Tuned.
