Does Apple Remote Desktop need to be installed on the client computer?

I'm not an "power" Mac user and I'm new to Apple Remote Desktop. Does ARD need to be installed on the client computer in order for me to remotely connect to it via the internet from another mac (with ARD installed)?

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Yes, you have to have two seperate entries, one TCP/UDP entry for port 3283 and a seperate entry (also TCP/UDP) but for port 5900. Did you try port scanning the target machine with your mac? I would recommend doing this as it will confirm whether or not the ports are actually being forwarded or not. It's shame you have had so much trouble. FWIW i highly recommend Teamviewer as an alternative to ARD, it's the only program i trust to connect to windows machines remotely.

Good Luck!
