i need to download 10.7.0 (10.7.2 max), where does Apple keep earlier versions of OS?

i foolishly updated my MacPro and laptop to 10.7.3, but then discovered that it messed up some of my Pro apps like Nikon Capture NX2, which is only supposed to work on 10.7.2

i have been trying to find anyway to go back, and was informed that i had to erase and start from the OS that came with my mac

so i went back to 10.6.4, and have now updated to 10.6.8

then went to the App Store in order to update to 10.7.0, which i had already bought

but the App Store only offers me 10.7.3, and no earlier versions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

where can i get 10.7.0?

(i have the combo update which is available on the downloads of Apple website, but this is obviously no good without the base 10.7 already installed)

this appears to be a problem that Apple has created by not selling OS on discs anymore

HELP!!!!

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 12Gb 1333MHz DDR3 ram, ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card

To my knowledge the only place to get the Apple Lion Install USB thumb drive is from the Apple website. I don't thing they are available at any Apple walk in store. In fact just after Lion came out Apple Pulled all versions of OS X off the retail store shelves. So even if you wanted the retail version of Snow Leopard you had to order and buy it from the Apple website.

i later discovered that 10.7.3 worked with 2.3.0 on another mac, but by then i had gone awol and trashed everything on my main HD

now i am wondering which direction i should go from here.........

do i stick to 10.6 and hope that when i use Migration Assistant from my backup (which has 10.7.3 on it) that there will not be a load of conflicts

or do i restore my main HD from the SuperDuper backup and try and sort out the conflist with Capture NX2?

have to say i am thinking a 10.7.3 restore seems the better answer

and i should add here that was was happening was that Nikon Capture NX2 was firstly refusing to open a NEF RAW file, the it started to not see thumbnails for any file in any folder (it would only see the icon of the file, not the mini image itself, then when i deleted the cache file it would not even see the icons ......... so i had a Pro image app that would not see images of any sort!!!!)

(it should be noted here that all my other Nikon apps worked perfectly fine - Camera Capture Pro, Nikon Transfer, Nikon View and Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw also saw all the images - it was JUST Capture NX2 which i use to work on the images in my first stage of workflow that was not doing anything)

I agree with Carlo, if you've got a backup from before you reverted to 10.6, just restore your system from backups.

Note that this is an illustration of why you shouldn't pay too much attention to people telling you your problems are all Apple's fault and caused by a train-wreck of an OS. Those kinds of replies are counter-productive, posted by people with their own agenda that does not necessarily have anything to do with solving your problem.

I'm sorry but where in this thread has anyone said that it is all Apple fault or that Lion is a Train-wreck of an OS.

I read all of it and replied several times and have not seen those comment made. Nor have I seen any that are Counter Productive.

We are all trying to get the OP back to 10.7.2, if possible, or see what problem he is having with that certain program just because of the .3 update.

But I guess you have your own agenda against certain users of this forum.

And your last comment is IMHO very counter productive.

HI. I am also finding this a bit frustrating. I'm newly upgrading to Lion from 10.6, but I'd like to upgrade to 10.7.2 as that is the version that is (at present) qualified for Pro Tools. There seems to be no way of downloading and installing an older version of Lion?

I'm going to try with 10.7.3 and see what happens. I did find the Install APP in my applications folder (before I clicked install), however I agree with the previous poster that for most Users they would not know it was there, or to back it up before installing.

here is my update to this -

there is NO way to go backwards in an OS easily

i have had to buy the OSX 10.7 USB stick which cost me just under £60 (w courier charges) and is a mosrt basic slice of plastic that does not look like it was made to last and does not even come with it's owmn container

since the problem which required me to revert back to 10.7.2 (Nikon Capture NX2 instal that stopped working) i discovered that the rememdy was to Get Info on the app and check the box "Open in 32-bit" - it now works fine (so let that be a lesson!!!!!)

i have been advised that if i still needed to go back to 10.7.2 from 10.7.3 it was seriously not adviosable to put the 10.7.0 USB stick in a try to revert that way

i had stopped using TimeMachine due to 3 failures to successfully update, which made me feel it was unsafe to rely on it (tho i have been since TOLD by an Apple genius that there is absolutely no problem with TM and that if there was we would have all heard about it by now!! - not sure about that, and i also got into a bit of an argument about the same thing on a MUG discussion too - so i do not know if TM is now more stable or whether it was all due to the disc i was using ............ but Apple obviously relies on us users using TM and if there is a problem like i have had then to use it as the best way to go back in time and OS

BEWARE THERE IS A SERIOUS RUMOUR THAT THERE WILL NOT BE ANY USB STICKS FOR 10.8

so, the only choiuce left was to do what iu had started to do, and to erase and format the disc afer backing up what i had, and to use the original OS that came with the machine (in my case that was 10.6.4) and update to 10.6.8, then to use the USB stick to update to 10.7.0 and then use the combo update which is still available to 10.7.2 - and then use Migration Assistant to get all the apps from my backup - which ineveitably can cause breakages and wouold require attention to rememdy them for the next week or so

so, i guess the advice her is first do no update until you KNOW all your apps are going to work, and secondly do use TimeMachine, evn if you do not totally trust it since it might be the best way to go back in time, and thirdly have another backup strategy like SuperDuper which perfectly restored my main HD in 3 hours

a very wasteful exercise all in all, but one which had left a few "MUST DO'S" ......

@bobwild

re Nikon Capture working on some machines and not others ........

seems it is dependant on the CPUs of the machine concerned, or so said Nikon

so it worked fine on my MacBookPro with i7 cores, but not on my MacPro w 2 6-core Xeons

the latter needed the app to be changed to "Open in 32-bit" the laptop did not

i have not heard of this before, but both machines were similarly up to date in all apps and the only obvious difference between them are the processors ........... so .........
