Flip the ring/silent switch on the left side of your phone.
it still vibrates right through my ear, that's not even resnoble
Turn off vibrate from settings, sounds.
so i should turn of sound and vibration before every phone call i make? that doesnt make scence guys
i do beleive under setting then sound or notification there is an option to turn the sound off when a new notification pops up. i'm at work and not able to have my phone with me. hope that helps
Basel,
I'm not sure why these folks are having trouble understanding your request. I will dumb it down for them. Is there an option to have the iPhone only provide me with notifications when I'm not on the phone. Having my $800ish phone buzz and interrupt my phone conversation (after all primary function of this iPhone is being a phone) to let me know one of my Facebook friends has challenged me to a game of words with friends. I don't want my iPhone to not notify me at all. It can notify me after the call (again primary function) is complete. Going through menus and turning off notifications all together is absolutely silly. I wouldn't want to have to navigate through the menus and turn them off and then on an then off just to make or receive a phone call. Could you imagine answering you phone with, "hey, just wait I have to turn my notifications off so I can have this conversation." every time you wanted to talk on the phone.
So yeah. Again not sure why they were having trouble with understanding you. I hope this helps clarify it for them.

FINALLY. The other replies were so absolutely discouraging... glad Basel and I aren't the only ones in the world annoyed with the issue.
Apparently there still isn't an answer. What a terribly frustrating feature.

Everyone understands the question. However, the answer remains the same: That's not a feature of the iPhone.
If you wish Apple to consider adding such a feature, stop disparaging people who are trying to help (and providing accurate answers) and submit your feedback to Apple where it might do some good:
If you're not connected to wifi the phone disconnects from data services whilst on a cellular call so the notifications shouldn't come through when on a call, but not possible when connected to wifi, SMS will still come through though obviously so all you can do is flip the silent switch to on
The best option I have found is first changing the "Do Not Disturb" setting to "Always" instead of "Only while iPhone is locked" when phone is locked. This will keep the phone from buzzing when your on a call. Its the quickest fix from having to change all your settings in the middle of a call, but is still requires you do a quick slide and "hit your do not disturb" and then unselect it. Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
We are getting it... A simple feature is missing from the iPhone.
(@IdrisSeabright) You act surprised that people expect this from a $800 phone.
If you designed a phone, wouldn't you have an option to: "[ ] delay alerts until I finish my phone call"?
I'm glad the original poster added this topic, so I don't waste any more time searching for a feature that I would characterize is useful.

No where in her reply did she say she was surprised to see this, she replied with the method to let Apple know you wish to see a change. Also, this is almost a 5 year old thread. While the answer hasn't changed, Apple still does not participate here and get thoughts. You will still need to provide feedback to Apple via the feedback link to let them know you wish to see this change.
This is dependent on carrier. AT&T does not disconnetc data during phone calls.
