hp photosmart d110 installer not supported

Hey All,

I'm trying to reinstall my HP Photosmart D110 printer for like the 11th time this week. I bought the printer about 1.5 years ago, with my Macbook Pro. Everything worked fine at first -- through my last year of college, several moves, etc. Now, when I try to use my printer (wirelessly or hard-wired) it simply won't work. I've gone through uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, with the installation CD and the downloaded installation software from hp.com/support --they're one in the same.

My Mac won't recognize the printer and at the end of the installation wizard, I get a message saying "If your device is not listed, it is not supported by this installer."

I've called Applecare. The rep was very helpful, but unable to resolve my issue. I've called HP Tech Support, which was a less than pleasing customer service experience. They're not open 24-7 as they advertise and when I finally did get a rep, he was troubleshooting for a PC when I specifically noted that I have a Mac. Naturally, I was told I needed to be transferred to a different department, where no one answered the phone (even during "normal business hours.")

Needless to say the whole experience has been very frustrating, especially since the printer was working fine as recently as 2 months ago, and because I've gone through the typical reinstall procedures.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

try this, go to stsem prefs>printers.delete all the printers in the list,Highlight and hit the minus button.

Press the add button and type your printer name and model, click +. Make sure the print que is empty.

reboot both units and see wat happens when you try to print a doc. All te best

HP support is simply abysmal.

It sounds as though your printer dropped off your network, for unknown reasons. Try the following - from HP's abysmal website:

Run a Wireless Network Test to check that your printer is on the network. To do this:

On the HP Photosmart front panel, press the Wireless button to display the Wireless menu on the printer display.
Select Run Wireless Network Test on the display.
The Wireless Network Test Report is automatically printed. Review the report:

If something failed during the text, it is described at the top of the report.
The Diagnostics Summary lists all the tests that were performed, and whether or not your printer passed.
Confirguration Summary to find out Network Name (SSID), Hardware Address (MAC), and IP Address.

If your printer is not connected to the network:

Press the Wireless button to open the Wireless menu on the printer display. Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

Post back with your findings.

Hi sanjampet,

I tried deleting all of the printers from the Print+Fax menu with Applecare. Unfortunately, that didn't work, until I took John Galt's advice and reconnected the printer to my wireless network.

Hi John Galt,

Thanks for your help! I did run the network test again -- which I've done before -- but this time I tried restarting everything and reconnecting the printer to my wireless network. Next, I installed the printer without the CD: I went into System Prefs > Printer & Fax > "+" add a printer > and typed in photosmart D110, it recognized my selection and installed the printer using Apple's install (Bonjour).

So that fixed the first issue of not being able to print. Then, I still wasn't able to scan. Per the advice of another user on the HP support forum, I added the printer once again, using the downloaded HP Support driver. The scan options come up, but I'm getting error messages. As of yet, still no luck with scanning.

I'm celebrating the simple win of at least being able to print.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting the scanning feature would also be greatly appreciated.

Printing is easy, scanning became easy in 10.7 but with your HP and OS X 10.6, you will probably need to use HP's scanning utility. I believe you will find the scanning utility in HP Image Zone. Initiating scanning from the printer's front panel is not reliable so use Image Zone or whatever HP calls it these days.

I believe you may find Image Capture will also work on your computer but I am not at a Snow Leopard machine right now so I am not sure about that.

One thing you can do that will eliminate 99% of your printing / scanning problems is to assign the printer a static IP address. That way, it will always appear in the same "place" as far as your network is concerned. If you need help with that write back.
