Go to the app store and get any of the apps that read that file type. Pages, docs to go, quick office, there's a bunch.

You can also open with Quickoffice Pro. This is a Document 2007 Format.

If it were me, I would stick with Pages. It just looks as if the ratings overall are better that's all. Did this help?

Don't think it's an iOS issue. I'm using iOS 9.2.1 on my iPad Air 2 and Pro and have no problem opening *.docx, *.xlsx and *.pptx files using Microsoft's latest Office apps.
You do realize this thread has been dead for almost 4 years?

I Have the same iOS and have also downloaded Word, so does t his have to be open before I can open a docx attachment in an email. I also have pages too?
