Macbook Pro USB Ports stopped working completely

Hello everyone,

My macbook pro has been updated to the 10.7.3 software.

I have had my mac for quite a while and over time my USB ports have slowly stopped working.

I have tried deleting junk, updating everything, and nothing is working.

My Mac has been updated to the new lion and everything (I bought it online for $30, because it did not include it when i first recieved the mac)

I tried resetting my computer, shutting it down and what not. I have looked at other forums about this and nothing I do works.

The mouse I have is not recognizeable along with my Droid phone, printer, and iPod.

I took my macbook to the nearest computer lab (I am a college student on campus) and power was being drawn from the farthest port but none from the closest. They did not know how to fix it, except recommending I update lion. I did and well, nothing happened.

If anyone can please help me out, I am not sure if it is the hardware or what, but nothing is working and it has become very frustrating.

I had a similar problem when restoring a Time Machine backup from my previous MacBook Pro (early 2011 i7) OS X Mavericks to my new MacBook Pro (early 2015 i5).

This post helped me out:

I ran Kext Utility from Tonymacx86 to repair permissions (no installations, etc) and then rebooted. Result! Both USB ports working again.

I hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem and it's always when I try to use an external disk drive through a powered Anker USB 3 hub. The hub works fine most of the time, but most of the times when I turn on my external drive, the USB hub just stops working. I thought this was an issue with the USB hub at first since my MBP's USB port continues to work just fine, but it only will work for a directly connected device.

If I plug in a USB2 hub into my MBP after USB3 hub has done dead, the USB2 hub is also dead.

The frustrating thing is that for almost a year, I was able to use that USB3 hub with no issues no matter what I plugged into it. Out of the blue I started having this issue.

I am having the same issue. My USB ports slowly started to stop working about 2 years ago. At first I thought it was a hardware issue but now I am not so sure. Today I had one usb working so that I can record audio but all of a sudden it stopped. It happened around the time my system was updated to Mountain lion now I am in El Captain and no access what so ever. I need my USBs!!!!! What should I do? I looked at Kext Utility from Tonymacx86. and it had Maverick help but I don't know if it will be relevant to the updated system. Please I need this before next week can someone help me?

My mid 2014 Macbook Pro started having faulty USB ports at just after one year. Always pampered and cared for religiously.

Have been using Macs since the original iBook G3 and am so disappointed at this lack of quality control and accountability in malfunctioning prpduct.

I tried calling customer service and was dismissed by a rude representative.

Asked to speak to a supervisor and he put me on hold for 20 minutes. I finally hung up.

Then I went to file a complaint through the website and the link to the complaint form was down...
