Why can't I save pdf files in Safari 5.1.2

Up to now it hasn't bothered me much, but today I wanted to download iBank 4 Quick Start Guide. When I clicked on the link for the guide, Safari went to a pdf page and displayed the first page of the pdf. When I selected "Save As" it gave me a name for the file and the download destination. When I said OK, I got this error: The document “iBank_4_Quick_Start.pdf” could not be exported as “iBank_4_Quick_Start”. This happens for every pdf page I try to download. I get an error every time. The only work around I've found has been to right click (control click) on the button that takes you to the pdf file and select "Save linked file to the desktop" Safari used to allow you do a "Save As" for all pdf's. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Quit Safari.

Open the Library folder in your home folder by holding down the option key and selecting Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar (Lion), or by selecting Go ▹ Go to Folder… and entering “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens (pre-Lion.)

Delete the following items from the Library folder:

Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist

Preferences/QuickTime Preferences

Relaunch Safari and test.

Thank you SO much. I have been dealing with this same problem ALL day. Had been uploadng PDF files to my desktop forever, until today. Thought it was maybe the website, but worked fine on a different MAC. Remembered I had updated Adobe yesterday. After following Linc Davis's instructions to delete the 3 items from my library, I still wasn't able to upload a PDF file. Continuing to read more replys, I found yours and BINGO, I can now get some work done! Thanks again to you and everyone offering help.

AFAIK that requires you to save in the downloads folder, which I frequently *do not* want to do. The Save As option is more flexible as it allows you to choose the save location. The same save control option is available in the simpler interface for the older Acrobat plugin, and I don't use that for the same reason. The difference between the two is that the older control didn't break the Save As option, whereas the new control does. (As far as I have been able to discern).

Having the same experience as everyone here the way I "solved" that was to use google's Chrome browser to get my pdf I wanted to download. Very simple and easy without doing any of those tricks. I know this is very un-Mac but ...hey it worked. But thanks all the people here who shared all their interesting solutions and ideas. It was bugging me for a few hours until I came to this forum. Hope Safari people will fix this soon, as I am an avid user of it!

This just started happening to me in March. Worked fine for months before that. Not sure what got changed, never will figure out that as I'm just a user not a techie....

Well, saving to the floppy as suggested above seemed to solve my problem. Well, not really... It did allow me a way to save a PDF that works, but there must be a problem under the covers somewhere..

Anyway, since the floppy suggestion works - THANKS!

Where is this library folder that everyone is talking about? I'm fairly new to the IPad and can't find it. I want to be able to SAVE PDF files and one would think this would be rather simple. But now I am in a quagmire of answers that I don't understand. I can even see folders that have been saved in the PDF application so it must have saved them automatically. I can delete them, edit them but how so I save a New one???

Any help appreciated.
