One headphone louder than other.

Hello,

I have had my MacBook Air 2011 13-inch for 7 months now, and I have recently noticed that one of the headphones when plugged into the headphone jack is louder than the other. I have tried different headphones, and I have had the same outcome. I have tried swapping round the headphones from left ear to right ear, and I instantly hear the difference. I have tried both my headphones and other ones with my phone, and they sound perfect, no sound difference. I have checked my headphones for wax, and there is none. I haven't come across anything similar to this on Apple Discussions. It is still in the one year warranty, and I have AppleCare for an extra two years.

Has anyone else heard of this problem, and if so, what should I do?

I am sorry, I read that I should check System Preferences > Sound > and check the output balancer, and it was off. I didn't realise that this could happen.

I had output balancer not balanced on brand new MBA 2012 just taken out of the box. This helped me, but apple should have managed to ship their laptops without such small annoying stuff

Thank you to the OP for solving this.. My top spec 2012 MBA had a really quiet left ear! Same problem it was set 3 spaces to the right from factory!!!

Wow.. Thank you, OP! I thought I was going deaf on one ear or something. It was really a small misbalance and I was freaking out, testing different headphone sets, swapping ears. 🙂 What a relief.
