Final Cut Pro X - erroneous "flash" clip

I am trying to create a project and for some reason Final Cut Pro X will mask/copy (whatever) a brief second of a still several frames before and add it to a frame further down the line. I have gone back numerous times and tried deleting the still that it is copying but the program still insists on inserting it even without the original even being on the timeline. The flash of the still wouldn't be more than a split second but it is absolutely annoying and unacceptable. Has anybody else had this problem and, if so, how does one solve it? This is the second time I have restarted this project only to find the same problem but with different stills. I thought that it might have been due to the copying of a crossfade transition. However, I have deleted all those, plus the original offending still to no avail. Please can somebody help me?

Thank you

You're welcome. That's the purpose of this forum - help each other. You also help me confirm that this problem of "ghost" clips is a FCP X bug.

Am trying to identify specific actions that create these "ghost" clips so I can send a meaningful bug report to Apple. Here's what I have so far: Seems to be a random, low-frequency phenomemene occurring only at clip transitions. Only happens when mixing stills with video. "Ghost" clip is always from a still and is one or two frames long. Cannot replicate problem by Ctrl-z back then repeating edits. Problem doesn't occur unless you make an edit on timeline. Image in "ghost" clip won't necessarily be the image (still) of focus - it might be from a still that was previously deleted or moved. Importantly, this "ghost" clip, even though extremely short, will be very noticeable in final delivered products regardless of transition type or length - you can't really mask it by using dissolves or other trickery.

Don't really have time to do extensive troubleshooting on this and would appreciate input from others who might have suggestions and/or experiences that might help Apple identify root cause and fix.

I worked on my project (all of 10 mins long) for some hours yesterday and tried to "identify specific actions" which might be the cause of these "ghost clips". I could'nt come up with anything concrete except that they seemed to be occurring more frequenctly as I moved along with my project. I am only using stills, transistions, titles and a few effects so it isn't a matter of mixing stills with video I think. Mine is not low-frequency but high-frequency for reasons beyond my comprehension. However, I can't say that I am a professional Final Cut Pro expert. Either Final Cut Pro 7 or Pro X. In fact, this is my first try with the later. I will post if I should come up with anything further. I certainly would like to help others who surely must be very frustrated by this problem.
