Ibook Author audio (AAC) media widget rejected in validation??

We have a complex image, video and music book from the Arctic created on ibooks author. Everything seems to validate through itunes producer on delivery except for this error message.

ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets: assets/media/Arctic_master_music.m4p" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)

We've done everything in widget sizing, placement, audio encoding to aac from QT, itunes and compressor. We can't get past there error? Is there a bug in the ibook author or am I missing someting.

Any ideas. The videos work fine, just the audio clip/

Hello Fellow iBook Authors!

Today I received the same error that you all have been discussing. I tried selecting the DRM

and this did not work for me, though I'm glad it did for some. Here's what I did as a work-around. . .

Since iBooks Author did not have a problem with Videos, I simply used one of my video programs, ScreenFlow to turn the audio into a video file m4v. I added an image and extended the length or timing of the image to span the length of the audio file. Then exported as an .mov. I then opened QuickTime and opened the file and exported the file to iTunes.

You can use iMovie, Camtasia or any other progam that will allow you to export the audio as a movie file. Does this make sense? I hope this helps, at least in the short-term.

Hi guys. Here is the last Apple answer i have....

Hello Alexandre,

Thank you for contacting iBookstore Publisher Support.

Please uncheck the box for DRM free in the Rights and Pricing tab. This should correct the issue. Please re-deliver, and contact us again if you are still experiencing the error.

Best Regards,

Michelle

Turning back home 😁 it's better to laugh.

Why not test the my-dropzone solution, but as Richo said, Apple should give us the solution of their job..

Stay in touch.

Michael,

We've always tried submitting with DRM since we need to protect some of our music. But it has never worked. We don't think turning off DRM is a solution if in fact that is working for some.

I thought of your workaround making a movie out of the audio, but doesn't that add quite a lot to the file size? If we have 45 minutes of audio and turn it around into 29.97 FPS video even with a small image, it would add a lot to the total package right?? Also, I think Apple has a minimum level of data stream for video so all video will look good on the ipad. I think we tried making a small compressed video file a few weeks back and it wouldn't pass unless you used the preset for ipad, iphone video.

The other issue is that when we have the bug fixed either by Apple or we discover what in the heck is going on, you (we) would have all of the audio in need of replacing. This has to be such a simple fix I can't understand this glitch and why a number of us are hanging up on it.

Yes, it will add size to the file. In my case, I had mostly videos and only

two audios. So, to convert those two even with the increase in size was

worth being able to deliver now.

However, I agree this should be fixed soon as I had already delivered my

project successfully once with the audios. I just needed to remove a link

I thought Apple would reject and this is when I received the error.

If you have a lot of audio, it probably would be better to wait.

By the way, my project has around 17 videos and came in around 300 MB.

Hopefully they get it fixed soon.

We encountered the same problem when we tried to deliver our ibook with audio. I checked DRM free and got the file validated and uploaded successfully. Then I logged into iTunes Connect, found my book, and edited rights. I changed "DRM free" from Yes to No.

I'm not sure if this will enable DRM protection of the ibook. Has anyone tried this?

I have short sound effect audio files. I've been successful twice out of approx 50 attempts. DRM settings have not helped me. The first time it loaded was on the initial publish from iBooks_author. The second was my first publish after a ticket had been issued. All other attempts have errored out with "audio outside widget." I wonder if the apple review process sets a flag, either on purpose or by accident, allowing an update w/audio to occur.

Hi Richo and you all guys.

Apple gave me today a solution to this problem, and it worked for me.

1/ use the publish way for your book. ITP open. Fill with the metadata and keep it open

2 / use the publish way for the preview. ITP open. Close this one.

3 / Open the itmsp package created when publishing the preview, Choose the preview file inside to use it with the first ITP

Hope it works for you guys.
Best regards from Corsica

Corsicansailor your fix worked for me! I was having the same troubles as LoghouseJD where a package that had previously uploaded fine to the ibookstore was flagged for a ticket then gave me the ACC media widget rejection when I tried to reupload the fixed version.

As a side note on the DRM Free checkbox, I now have two books on the iBookstore, ("Macbeth Video Enhanced Edition" and "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Video Enhanced Edtion") I was able to recheck the "DRM Free" box once they were uploaded.

May 25, 2012 6:45 PM in response to rah.e

Hi rah.e,

I think I can help explain the process. Corsicansailor mentions the book and preview. The "book" is your full textbook. The "Preview" is the sample version you create as part of your package that is a smaller version of the full book.

When you hit the "Publish" button in iBooks Author it creates an iTunes Producer File or "ITP" it shows up as your isbn # with the extension .itmsp in your finder after you fill in all of the metadata for your publish. You'll do this for both your full book and the smaller sample or preview book. You'll need to remember where you save it when you hit the publish button in iBooks (It's probably easiest to save them to your desktop).

Now that you have the definitions you're ready to give it a try.

1. Go into iBooks Author and open your Full Book version. Hit Publish. Fill in all of the required fields. When you get to the "Assets" tab you'll see a space for your "Publication Preview." Just leave that empty for now, but fill everything else. Leave that iTunes producer window open.

2. Now go back into iBooks Author and open up your preview version. Hit publish (pay attention to where this file is saved). Then close the iTunes producer window for your preview.

3. This is where you need to remember where you saved the preview .itmsp file. If it's on your desktop, right click it and select "Show Package Contents." There you will find a file with a .ibooks extention. This is the file you want to drag into that empty space for "Publication Preview" in your full book iTunes producer file you started in step 1.

4. Once you have all of the required metadata fields filled you're ready to deliver. You might try checking the "DRM Free" box in the "Rights and Pricing" tab to ensure delivery. You can recheck it once it's on the store.

I may have over simplified here, but either way I hope it helps you and anyone else having the same problems. We all know how frustrating this process can be.

Hi All --

I'm having this same audio outside of widgets problem. The issue is, though, I"m trying to upload an update to a previously published title. So I can't use the workaround above, as I'm not creating a new package but simply updating an old one.

Has anyone else had any success defeating the audio widget problem when updating a title already in the bookstore?
