iTunes cannot sync mail

When I try to sync mail in iTunes the checkbox is not clickable and no mail accounts are shown.

Tried:

plugging in a different iphone (update OK)

updating software

reinstalling software

creating a new account

(the problem resides on the mac)

deleting caches

Deleting mail accounts, caches and preferences

deleting iTunes library, caches and preferences

Nothing! Just the same error.

Can anyone help me?

That is not so. Apple Mail works, or used to synch. I had Apple Mail on iPhone, iPad, and Mac perfectly synched so that read or deleted emails were appropriately treated on the other two devices.

However, concurrent with filling up iCloud and being told that my iPhone could no longer back up on iCloud, this synching stopped. I turned off 2.5 gig of Audible.com back up on iPhone/iCloud and still not synching as it was, even tho I now have about half the 5gb available and open in free iCloud storage.

The iPad and IPhone are checked in iTunes to synch over wi-fi.

Help. I can't get to a genius bar until Sept 18.
