How to import a DVD to imovie?

I found handbrake wont run on Yosemite as its a blocked app. but MacX DVD Ripper Pro worked for me

Don't download any crap...
1. Open up Disc Utility. (already on your Mac, not an app purchase)
2. Click on the file that you want to convert.
3. At the top, click "New Image" and save wherever you want to save it to.

4. Go have coffee, because this may take a while.
5. After it has processed, go to wherever you saved the file and open it. It may take a few seconds to process,
6. A window should open up asking if you want to import the video.
7. Click whatever you want to import, and iMovie should open up with the new footage in a new event.
