ITunes radio 10.5.3 (3) stopped working

I've been using ITunes radio flawlessly for years, when suddenly this a.m. I got the error message: An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later.

The rest of ITunes like the store and such seem to be working fine as is my internet connection. Nothing on my system has changed. ITunes was last updated in January 2012.

I'm on Mac book with OS X 10.6.8.

Any ideas or suggestions?

What you can do is this: every once in a while one or some of the music genres will pop open, when that is the case, make a new playlist and copy all radio stations in that playlist. This way you can collect as much stations as possible, and because there is no longer any need for the genre list to appear which most often does not work, you can click on the station in your playlist and listen to the station you want while the genre itself in iTunes' Radio does not show up. It might take a few days before you have collected all the groups that you want to listen too.

The process described by Appeltjehehe worked for me. Yesterday the two genres I care most about opened up (who knows for how long) and I seized the moment to create a couple of playlists and drag several stations into them. I never would have thought of this on my own, but a couple of previous posts had advised doing this, so thanks to any and all who gave that info. Today, all the stations I dragged into playlists are accessible. The catch is you have to hit up your genre at just the right time. I kept trying over the course of a few days and eventually nailed it.

I dont' understand why a company like Apple can't recognize bugs and keep users informed of it.

When they get a report like this from multiple users from around the globe, there is clearly a bug. They should investigate it and have a place to report it...something that shows the bug is recognized and then an estimated time to repair or a place to report the status of the bug fix...a place to keep users informed, and a place to report that the bug has been fixed and a new download is available.

Is that too much to ask????

Apparently.....

I managed to fix mine.

Was having the same problem here today January 21, 2013 using 2009 iMc with OSX 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1

I read this guys post and it seemed to fix it:

http://the.tygern8r.com/2012/156/itunes-radio-contacting-tuning-service

I didn't delete my ISP's DNS address just added the one he used. I also turned of my wifi and just used the ethernet on my iMac (I have wifi turned on to use remote on my iphone).

Then I restarted itunes. Clicked on the twisty triangle thing under a genre of music and very quickly the message popped up "itunes contacting tuning service refreshing category list" but so fast I couldn't have read it and then all the stations appeared.

I am running on Mac OSX 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.2. I see that the "Radio" feature has been moved to a different spot in the iTunes user interface. It used to show up in the side bar under the Library. It is now bundled in with the Music choices. That is, select Music and then look at the top bar on the music window to the right. My music top bar reads: "Songs Albums Artists Genres Videos Radio Match".

The irony is iTunes help still shows the internet Radio selection to be in the side bar under the Library heading.
