no credit card associated Apple id

i want to use my apple id in mac app store without associating my credit card. i read it somewhere that i could buy free apps with non-credit card associated id's. but when i tried, it kept asking me to enter credit card number. so can i use app store without credit card?

It is important to know that you have to start from scratch!

  1. Sign out (log out) of iTunes and close it (as in really "QUIT" it)!
  2. Open iTunes
  3. Select "iTunes Store" from the left
  4. Select "App Store" from the top
  5. Search for a FREE App
  6. Click on "free" button next to the App Icon
  7. Click "Create New Account"
  8. Click "Continue"
  9. Change your country by clicking on "click here" at the top
  10. Select your country and click "Change"
  11. Select the checkbox at the bottom to agree and click on "Agree"
  12. Fill out your details (email, password, etc.) and click on "Continue"
  13. The "none" option as payment method should now be visible at the top - click on "none"
  14. Fill out your billing details (name, address, etc.)
  15. Click on "Create Apple ID"
  16. Have faith!!! Because if you don't:

You have a brand new account today and you have posted two comments, both attacking folks. You are now on the ASC Hosts radar. Keep it up and you will have a very short career here in the ASC.

Not sure what you and your poor grammar and spelling are on about. I replied to someone who stated that Apple's instructions for opening an account without a bank card no longer worked. I showed that the instructions do work.

EDIT -

I see that you have edited your comment and added a really poor photo of some kind. If you didn't get a None option, you are doing something incorrectly. By following the instructions correctly I get a None option every time, in every country where an account can be opened.

Screen shot from 2 minutes ago, same country you tried;

This appears to be a change in the policy.

If you choose United States as a STORE, you will not get the NONE option like you used to and like Apple's directons state you should.

If you do choose the Mexico store, you will get a NONE option. However once you change your store back to US, it asks for a credit card.

As a member of a school district setting up these devices for students this is a major pain!

Why Apple, actually we all know why they want a credit card waiting in the wings... but really what about schools that do not wish to do this.

I posted the link at Feb 26, 2012 9:49 AM in my first comment for Apple's instructions for creating a new Apple ID and iTunes/Mac App Store account. If you follow those instructions to the letter, you will get the None option every time, as I have shown a number of times in this thread with screen shots. Try to create the account any other way and you will likely not get a None option.

I hope this helps some of you. I too created an account and needed the NONE option. Upon trying to recreate the account, the system would always state that the email was in use. If you go to: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/100/wa/directCallLand ingIndex?wosid=e6wt14tqIct08i3JQWrZFw&localang=en_US the online Apple ID login to manage your Apple ID account, you can then edit the account and choose a new email (I made a dummy gmail account up just for this). I verified that new email address thereby releasing my original email address from the Apple ID stranglehold.

I then did what the support article says. I went into the App Store and downloaded a free App and when it asked me to create a new account I did using the email address that I originally wanted and voila! the NONE option was there as stated and I have everything working under the account I wanted it under. I hope you find similar success.
