Delete Apple Mail without it being displayed & marked as read

Hi

I get quite a bit of spam that doesn't get picked up by my filter. I can always tell it is spam and I really do not wish to have it open up or to be marked as read. However, no matter what combination of left or right mouse click I do, it always displays in the display panel & it then gets marked as read as soon as I do anything to delete it. I hate this! 😠

Is there some way of deleting mail without it getting displayed/marked as read?

Many thanks.

Also a rule for .zip files. I get a few of those from time to time.

Let me add when making rules, note that I add senders not in address book and previous recipients not in list and all conditions met. That stops the rules from acting upon those who you know.

A good address book is a big key in creating rules like these.

Also note that the order rules are placed makes a difference in some cases. They are run in the order you have them in.

Some rules also have stop evalutating at the end. With this, if a message qualifies for the rule to run, all other rules after will not be run on that message.
