Translating older word processing files

I have files that were created in Apple Works and Word Perfect for Mac that need to be translated. Mac Link does not make a version for Lion. What else can I use to translate these files?

I am sorry, but it is not there; it has 22 entries for "save as", but no wpd.

I am sorry you can't find it but it is there, here is another picture, this time of the File Open dialog, it is in the same place approximately halfway down the list after StarWriter, this is now the second picture I have posted, what do you think I am doing, photoshopping them?

I haven't used it recently but I used it to convert a bunch of wpd files from a client law firm that had finally got away from it.

The following is from the Open Office Wiki page:

hmm Csound1, I feel a bit bad about cannibalizing this thread;

but really, I am not finding it anywhere: not in OpenOffice, not in LibreOffice, not in NeoOffice; not in the Windows installations nor in the Mac installations; not in the "Open" dialog, nor in the "Save as" dialog ,nor in the Settings/Load-Save dialog.

I do not think you are Photoshopping.😝

I have the newly installed versions of all, except the NeoOffice wich is updated. All the latest updates.

And I am rather familiar with these apps as well as MS-Office ????

Even Pocket Word is in the list but not the wpd...

I have installed the French, Dutch, German language packs installed as well (those are my languages).

I am flabbergasted. THX.

Add: these WordPerfect files are from Windows WordPerfect.

FWIW, I just created three WP PC files using WP for Mac running in SheepShaver and tried opening them with NeoOffice 3.1.2. It recognized all three, successfully opened the WP 3 and WP 6 to 8 formats but couldn't correctly open WP 5. Assuming that WP for Mac successfully creates WP PC documents, at least that version of NeoOffice has some limitations. Also, while successfully opening some of the files, NeoOffice doesn't offer the option of saving them back into WP file formats.

Hi Fatmac, again I hate it to cannibalising this thread but I am even more curious now...

My NeoOffice version is 3.2.1Patch4: in the "open" dialog there are a million possibilities and also "wpd", but it does not open my WP files. There is no wpd in "save as", and no wpd in "Load/Save". I am downloading Csound1 's OpenOffice now, I uninstalled my version with Appdelete, and will install it without any language pack, and I will see what happens... I come back in a few minutes...

Here I am, as I said I appdelete'd the OO3.3 I had, redownloaded from your link, did not add any language pack and started:

File/Open: in the list is wpd, !!

File/Save as: there is no wpd in the list !!

Load/Save Settings: there is no wpd in the list !!

BUT: now I could open wpd files back to 1996. I have 1 older one here, that did not open, but it may be corrupted. I have older ones in another country, I will be there and try them in two or three weeks.

GREAT, now at least I can open them.

I did an Appdelete of NeoOffice 3.2.1 and reinstalled: same story, I can read these same files now, but wpd only appears in the Open dialog.

Csound1, you were right, although I still do not understand why we have these differences.

And don't worry about your eyesight, I am at least twice your age I guess...

Fo the installation: I am at 10.7.3 now, no special hacks, that could have any infuence (I have some hacks: hibernatemode 0, noatime, SSD disk, Trim form Grant Pannel), and no MacKeeper (Haha).

Thx for your patience and your help, and you too FatMac.

I just tried the .wpd save as, it produced a .wpd file which I can open as a .wpd file using OO3.3, which is what I made it with so who knows whether the save as actually produces a WordPerfect compliant file?

I was only really looking to open .wpd files, don't have any use for creating new ones.

So

To the OP, download Open Office 3.3from this link, it will open Word Perfect files.
