sad face with exclimation point

I tried using the ipod updater, then tried to restore the ipod. After replacing a few songs, the sad face came on, and it's making this funny clicking noise. I tried everything on the ipod support website, and it still does not work. I been charging it for a day and a half. Any suggestions?

This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771 has all of the troubleshooting steps for this issue. Make sure you have, in fact, tried all of them. As the article states, the last resort is:

If you can't put your iPod into disk mode, reset it, then read the related documents to see if they might solve your issue. If not, consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod or visit your local Apple Retail Store.
