iMac Wi-Fi update v1.0 : is it working for you?

I'm running Lion OS on an iMAC. Experienced the wifi - connectivity problems in regard to the Sleep function. In addition to this, I was also experiencing multiple drops in connection throughout the day- sometimes 40+ drops a day. iMac was also running extremely slow. Reconnecting was not always easy, I would get multiple "time outs" and other times my network couldn't be found at all.


Since updating yesterday as per a gracious poster who posted this update

my iMAC is running faster. I have only had the wifi connect upon sleep problem twice, but it resolved itself quickly when I found my network and just clicked on it in the drop down. I have not had any drops since. I'm wondering how others are faring with the new update?

Your "g" device will NOT "Extend" the network....


Unless you use WDS which is not recommended as it will slow your entire network speed in 1/2 and you don't want that.

As I understand it ..are you saying that the main Airport would be connected to the modem in the front of the house, and then, the secondary Airport Express would be inside, (in the Extend a wireless network" mode, near the deck wall?"

Yes, I figured WDS would slow things down a bit. But I wonder: Maybe it would only be as slow as my MacBook that runs Tiger?😮 If it would be as slow as Dialup, I could deal with that!😁 I wouldn't be uploading photos and such, but just browsing ... I guess I could always purchase one Airport Express "n" and give it a shot- and if it's uber slow, then I can always get a second "n" ! Then I could use the "g" for streaming music, right??😉
Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Now, if I could just get my Wi-Fi to work "flawlessly" the way it used to........😐

The firmware update did not work for me. Neither did any of all the other tricks that have been posted in various fora. My internet connection drops out every few minutes on my 2010 i3 imac, but my MBA connects to the same network without any problems whatsoever.


This is very frustrating and amateurish that apple can't figure this out, and a sign that they are not what they used to be.

Airport Extreme = 4th generation

Airport Utility = 5.6 (and 6.0)

Airport Firmware = 7.6.1


Some of you may be using an old router that the cat dragged in from the back yard.

Unless you tell us, we have no way of knowing what you have....."


He knows a lot about this stuff ...post your router info here, I'm sure he will come in if he sees something that he can help with.

It seems that you have the same Airport Express as I do, yes, 6.3, and Airport Utility 5.6 and 6.0. Joseph Kriz doesn't think it's the router in my case, either.


I read a post saying to go to "wireless settings"(router config) and change the wireless network mode to one of the following: g only, 2.4GHz only, 802.11g only, or 802.11b.g only. Some people said it worked for them.


I just checked my settings and it is set to "802.11b/g compatible" but I'm hesitant to change anything there. I really do not know what that all means, but it might mean something to you or someone else, so I'm putting it out there.


I'm sure someone will be able to shed light on this one. Good luck to you.

Hi


I have been trying to install the wi fi update regarding the wi fi drop out problem for users running OSX Lion version 10.7.3. However, after downloading it, I trying to open using installer and I get this message :

'This software is not supported on your system'. I have an Early 2009 Mac.


Does anyone know why this is happening?

Hi Joseph:

I'm actually using teh modem/wireless router of our local Belgian DSL-provider:Belgacom. it's a "BBOX2".

As stated in my post: the patch didn't solve the problem at all: still teh "exclamation mark" on the wifi-status icon after coming out of sleep mode.

All my other devices: Windows PCs, Ipad, Iphone and Android devices work fine :-(

it's just my Imac on Lion who's having issues.
