I recently acquired a HP Laserjet 4000 N printer and I cannot seem to figure out how to print.
I have connected the printer to my Imac via an ethernet connection but the computer still does not seem to recognize the printer.
Can somebody help walk me through how to setup the printer?
I know the printer is old but when I look in the drivers, I see HP Laserjet 4000.
Please help!

That printer doesn't do Bonjour, it's too old. It *does* do Appletalk, so if you enable that, you could probably find it via broadcast.
Since it has an Ethernet connection on it, though, it has a Jetdirect in it, so configure it with an IP address on your network, then add it explicitly to your machine:
If that printer only "speaks" appletalk you cannot use it directly with snow leopard.
True that. Last place that was directly supported was Leopard.
I am at this exact same step but what is the syslog server address that it calls for in the printer TCP/IP setup?Mind you that its ethernet goes straight to a Airport Extreme.
If you do not know your printer's IP address, you'll need to get it to tell you that. To do that on the HP4000N, use the buttons on the control panel on the printer. Manually step through the menus until you get to the Print Configuration item; select that.
It should then print two sheets. The one you want is sub-titled JetDirect Configuration Page. Partway down on the left, under "Protocol Information", should be an item "IP address" - that numberstring is what you should enter in the IP Printer setup in OS X.
If that info area is blank on the printout, you'll need to reset the printer.
