Midi file won't play

I am currently running the most recent version of OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro 13", and for some reason I cannot play midi files. All midi files were working literally just yesterday, and out of nowhere they stopped. I can't get a single sound out of them. My headphones make a buzzing noise, like when speakers are waiting to produce sound. Every other sound file works as well. Midis straight off websites don't work either. But when I import them to garageband they work just fine. Anyone know whats up? I restarted my computer and shut it off completely twice already.

Just tried the new user. Still no luck =/ looks like its system wide. Now what?

try a different browser, try playing another audio file in your browser, turn your volume up, make sure your computer is plugged in. <--- what I say to everyone in technical advice 🙂

Unfortunately, it's not the browser. I have that issue even with files I downloaded previously to this mess. It must have something to do with the computers system itself since I tried another user and the problem persisted. And my volume has been on max, and my computer has also been plugged in. Also, every other audio file works. Thank you though!

I don't know. As I said, I find this baffling. Try re-installing QT Player 7. If that doesn't work, maybe install or re-install the latest QT update applicable to your version of the OS. But first and foremost, just to be sure, verify the hard disk.

Try playing the MIDI files using VLC rather than QuickTime 7. VLC is a free download.

Just a quick addition to Zyriab's comment. As provided, VLC won't play MIDI files; it requires additional software, as explained here

I don't know if this has changed in v2.

Of course, this doesn't solve the OP's problems, which I find quite strange.

Just verified the hard drive, everything checked out perfectly. I checked the permissions and every single one was wrong, so I repaired those but it didn't fix anything. So I'll try VLC and see if that works, then I'll reinstall Quick Time again and see if that works.

Ok, for some reason its treating my posts here as someone else's, so i have to post like this. As if we needed more problems with Apple XD anyway, VLC worked with the midi perfectly. I did have to download that soundfont though, and VLC said they haven't tested midi files on macs so i guess they should know. But QT Player seems to be the problem. I'm going to uninstall it and reinstall it again and hopefully that works. But at least its fixed! Thank you!
