iTunes radio not working

No idea why, but iTunes radio has stopped working.

I reinstalled the latest version, but when I open 'Radio' and click on a category I get "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later."

The internet connection is fine - I'm using it now - any ideas?

Thanks.

This was happening to me and it was fixed when I did the following:

iTunes > Preferences > Advance Settings

1. Reset Warnings

2. Reset Cache

3. Reset Identifier

And I noticed iTunes Radio only stopped working when I logged into another computer and tried playing it from another computer.

Hope this helps 😉

OH good.. it's not just me.

I've been working on scans with my dual-boot frankenbox living room G4 and running the ancient CoolScan under OS9 and my iTunes 2.0.4 isn't loading the stations in the categories. (The frankenbox has the music collection and it's ported to the stereo for the house, though the majority of time it's on is under Tiger..)

iTunes 2.0.4 can manage ONE local radio station connection, (It's right up the street) and that's from a .pls link I got from the radio station's webpage.

The PowerBook I'm posting with now, however, is running 10.5.8 and my iTunes 10.5 appears fine.

Hmmmm.

Folks: I found a solution.

I had created a playlist with some radio stations. I usually selected one of those and either double-clicked or hit Play button. Currently, these methods of playing those radio stations do not work.

However, going to the original location (LOCATION > Radio) on the left side panel of iTunes, and selecting the radio station from there, DOES work.

So, I deleted the stations from my playlist. Then I dragged the original radio station from LIBRARY > Radio to my playlist, re-creating the original list.

Selecting these stations from my playlist (double-click or Play) now works.

Apparently it's the Playlist links that were the problem.

I've done exactly that the last year or so when "one" of my radio stations went dead. This time all my 50 or so radio stations I've saved in a PlayList are dead.

Since it would be a major pain to recreate all of them, I'll give it a week or so and see if Apple comes up with a fix at the server level.

Thanks,

Dave

Same problem here. Running Lion on very new Macbook Pro. Solution to readd stations to Playlist worked for me. But I only had 5 of them. It's just so irritating. I am a long long long time Apple user and this last year of updates is the first time I have been truly unhappy with just about every update. No warnings that they are eliminating things and new stuff that just simply doesn't work. APPLE, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL YOUR USERS ARE RESPONSIBILITY-LESS TEENAGERS. Some of us (probably more than you think) are older, more mature and need more guidance through change (no matter how intelligent we are).

Sofia,

I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. In general, I get more and more frustrated with Apple software and support (hardware hasn't been too problematic).

But in this case, I'm on an install of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with iTunes 10.6.3. I did not up date anything in the last few weeks. This issue is completely caused by something at Apple's end, and based on prior experience, with this same problem, I doubt anything will get fixed by Apple. I use my Playlisted radio stations to jam and practice to, so I use them quite a bit. It's gonna take a bit of work, but I'll just update 5-10 a day until they are all done.

I just recently came across this problem. I was wanting to get a station playing so I could use the speakers on my Mac and AppleTV set up at the same time. I was unable to get the stations to play regardless of if I went to the Radio tab or a station in my playlist. What works for me at this point is getting the URL for the stream and pasting it in Advanced>Open Stream. Sure you could just open it in a browser, but I can once again use multiple speakers. When you open the stream it should create a new Internet Songs playlist.
