iTunes radio not working

No idea why, but iTunes radio has stopped working.

I reinstalled the latest version, but when I open 'Radio' and click on a category I get "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your Internet connection, or try again later."

The internet connection is fine - I'm using it now - any ideas?

Thanks.

This was happening to me and it was fixed when I did the following:

iTunes > Preferences > Advance Settings

1. Reset Warnings

2. Reset Cache

3. Reset Identifier

And I noticed iTunes Radio only stopped working when I logged into another computer and tried playing it from another computer.

Hope this helps 😉

It can be a DNS issue. You should differ between your iMac at Home and your iMac at work. They can use diffrent DNS resolution pathes. I have found that my favorite radio stream "Classic FM" was not available in a time, but few minutes later I could listen to this stream. So I think, that there is a DNS resolution issue.

Dear Apple,

If you put yourself on the critical path to valuable/critical information (e.g., RADIO via internet), you NEED to make sure the service is RELIABLE--or people will seek other alternatives which are reliable. Once they find the alternative they are not likely to return.

My radio service--like others in this discussion--has been out for 7 days....

....with RADIO SILENCE from Apple!

Please help or at least state that you are aware and are working on a solution.

Thanks!

It's been at least two weeks since this problem first arose, so I am no longer holding my breath for a quick fix. Until then may I suggest the following workaround (cross posted from a similar thread):

Go to your iTunes and select your Music library from the leftmost column:

In the main window, sort the list by clicking on "size": (see *** below if you don't see it)

*** IF *** you are lucky enough to have played your favorite radio station recently, youmay see it included in your library, with the size indicating "stream". You can then play it normally, even though the "radio tuning service" is not working.

To make this even easier, drag the entry to your Dock, your desktop, or someplace else convenient. Opening it will open iTunes and start streaming.

Hope this works for everyone until Apple fixes things.

FYI this problem occurs on every one of my Macs and Windows machines running all manner of iTunes versions. It affects OS X Panther, Tiger, Snow Leopard, Lion, OS 9, Windows XP, Vista and 7. There is nothing we can do about it.

*** If you do not see "Size" then select "View Options..." from the "View" menu and select it:

I finally did the OSX updates last night that I'd been putting off for a couple months, and now iTunes radio doesn't work for me as well. Before then, it worked fine. Now I get the same error reported here.

For all of you missing your music, you should realize that most of these stations are also listed on shoutcast.com in the same categories as iTunes radio, as they were long before iTunes existed and had a radio section.

These are not Apple radio stations, they're just internet streams that are listed in a directory in iTunes, nearly identical to the directory that always existed on shoutcast when winamp ruled the mp3 game.

On my mac though, I do find it inconvenient to open a browser and listen, so I hope they fix this, and acknowledge the issue.

I finally got the answer by phoning Apple CPU - they have three different Macs and all three are failing to make iTunes Radio work successfully.

Apparently it is some sort of server problem and the solution is... wait till it's fixed.

Memo to Apple: how about a service status page for such things, it would save so much hassle for your devoted customers?
