iCloud and iDisk Why????

I purchased a mobile me account quite some time ago. The reason for this was primarily for the functionality of iDisk. I share a lot of files with my customers and iDisk was a solid solution to this. I just upgraded to iCloud from Mobile Me and realized that after June 2012 I will no longer be able to share those files like I did with iDisk. I have read through all of the discussions regarding sharing files and this really frustrates me!

APPLE - BRING BACK iDisk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OR FIGURE OUT A WAY TO INTEGRATE IT INTO iCloud. If you read through your discussions on this topic you will see that you will probably loose a lot of customers due to this change. This includes myself.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Several other Macs too...

No one has still answered the original question.

That's because no-one here can. We are all just users of Apple products and have no insight as to why Apple makes the decisions it does. Also, speculating on Apple decisions is specifically against the Terms of Use of these forums.

Apple, why are you forcing this upgrade to icloud and subsequent Lion software? Why?

Apple are not here. These are user-to-user forums only.

Here is something I wrote in another thread and it seems like it is an answer to your question.

I think... you could choose to move forward now or wait, and let time pass you by.

I think it is a matter of using N routers, 64 bit OS 10.7 Lion, iCloud, Back to My Mac, and TimeMachine Backup to backup your data versus G routers, 32 bit OS 10.6 Snow Leopard, MobileMe, iDisk and MobileMe Backup to back up your data. (notice the order of the new technology and the order of the older technology - each level has subsequently improved)

I would suggest you give Back to My Mac a chance... and truthfully.. DropBox.. is pretty darn good. (Probably better than iDisk (part of MobileMe). Regardless, this is the pathways that is taking place. It is called inovating.

Seriously.. you should just plunge in and go ahead and put your feet in the sand, and jump on that tree... that tree being: N routers, 64 bit OS 10.7 Lion, iCloud, Back to My Mac, and TimeMachine Backup to backup your data.

We had two Apple Newtons in my family when Apple decided to drop them. Anyone interested in a paperweight? At least they were good for that. I can't think of anyway to recycle iDisk as a virtual paper weight.

Yes, it's another crazy "ram it down your throat", "tough luck we are doing it whether you like it or not" , "we know better than you" decision by Apple. It is very dissapointing to loose the iDisk. It is the reason I paid for MobileMe over the years. The next pargraph describes an additional problem with the loss of MobileMe which is worse for me.

The other Apple "arm twist' is with iCloud. With the demise of MobileMe I was told I loose my ability to use my .me email address with Mail unless I upgrade to iCloud. Using iCloud requires me to upgrade all my computers to Lion. I have three computers and an iPhone. Two of the three are new and have Lion, but my computer at work cannot be upgraded to Lion because our primary application in our business doesn't run on Lion yet. So, Apple has left me "holding the bag" on this one. It really *****.

I should have learned my lesson after my Newton experience.

Yes, you should know that products have lifespans by now.

You can convert to iCloud, use it as designed on all Lion and IOS devices, and access iCloud with a browser from your Mac at work. Mail on your work Mac can be configured for the iCloud servers so your .me mail works as it does now. You only lose the ability to sync your calendar and contacts on your work computer. You don't lose anything because calendar and contacts are accessible from your browser on iCloud.

Michael, I converted to iCloud ages ago, I guess that you thought you were replying to someone else?
